Rules Q&A
- Q: 1. Hoshi Ishida Challenges a Personality to a duel. The Challenge is refused. Does Ishida have to target the challenged personality with the Ranged Attack, or can he target any legal target?
Relevant Card text: "Battle: Once per battle, issue a challenge to an opposing Personality. If he refuses, Ishida produces a Ranged 3 Attack without bowing."
A: There is no specification as to what must be targeted by the Ranged 3 Attack. You can choose any legal target. Martin Lund, "Rules for 21 January 2005", 24 Jan 2005 - Q: Are ranged attacks that a personality can't actually use valid for Ambush Duel? For example, could a non-cavalry personality still add 4 to his or her chi during an Ambush Duel if they have a Shinjo Horsebow attached,
A: The card text does not say the ability has to be usable, only that the ability must be there. A non-Cavalry personality still adds +4 from Shinjo Horsebow in an Ambush duel. Martin Lund, "Rules for 9 September 2004", 13 Sep 2004 - Q: For the purposes of such cards as Archer's Row, Ambush Duel and others, is Hoshi Ishida possessed of "a printed Ranged Attack ability"?
A: It is an ability. The ability can produce a Ranged Attack. I'd think that would have to qualify. Martin Lund, "Rules for 26 August 2004", 31 Aug 2004
