- The increase to bonuses, even permanent ones, last until the end of the turn. [JA, 2 May 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 103
Rules Q&A
- Q: I have a question in a similar line. Can Toritaka Kitao(can't spell diamond legal guy off top off my head.)attach the scimitar and still be honorable since he cancels the action dishonoring him not the attachment?
A: Yes, Hiruma Ashihei can successfully attach Senpet Scimitar. None of the effects of the Action dishonor him. The trait of the card being attached dishonors him, and that's not part of any Action.
Same deal with Force Bonuses from Items when you attach them - they don't qualify as "A Force Bonus from an Action." Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 May 2004", 4 Jun 2004 - Q: Question: Hoshi Wayan XP 2 gains Double Chi. In a duel of Force, his tokens will:
A: According to the rule book, Double Chi makes each focus add its value twice.
Twice is an adverb in this sentence, meaning to do the action two times. That means you get two seperate bonuese from focusing. Each one can be Reacted to with Hoshi Wayan's ability once. Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 April 2004", 4 Apr 2004 - Q: What happens when you increase a permanent force bonus?
A: The increase lasts until the end of the turn (Rules Archive, Hoshi Wayan, Experienced 2, and Diamond rules, pg. 70). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 3 December 2003, Part 2", 4 Dec 2003 - Q: From the Rules Archive: Bonuses: Increasing an existing bonus (e.g., the fluctuating bonus from a Celestial Sword) is not a new force bonus, and cannot be used for effects triggered by a Personality receiving a force bonus. [JA, 5 July 2001]
Hoshi Wayan (Experienced 2): The increase to bonuses, even permanent ones, last until the end of the turn. [JA, 2 May 2003] ----------------------------- The important text from Wayan: Reaction: After Wayan gains a Force bonus, destroy a Tattoo token on him to raise the bonus by his Personal Honor. ----------------------------- After he gains a permanent bonus (Oath of Fealty, Avalanche Tattoo), it is there and permanent. Then a token is removed and it is inceased (which does not constitute a new, seperate force bonus), raising it to its new value. The increase is not a new bonus, just an increase to an already existing one, so why does he lose the increase at the end of the turn?
A: Because Wayan's Reaction is a seperate effect without a listed duration. That means that *it's* effects expire at the end of the turn. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 12th", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: A strange combo someone played against me, but I'm not sure it works.
Hoshi Wayan : Unaligned Tattooed Monk Experienced 2 Unique Limited: Once per turn, place a Tattoo token on Wayan. Reaction: After Wayan gains a Force bonus, destroy a Tattoo token on him to raise the bonus by his Personal Honor.
My opponent put one token on Hoshi Wayan, then played Stand As Stone on him, choosing a pernanent bonus of +2 force, and then reacted to that bonus to increase it by his personal honor (2).
I think this is ok until there, but I am not sure how long the bonus stays increased.
So, will Wayan have +4 Force forever, or +4 force until end of turn, and then +2 Force only ?
A: +4 until the end of the turn, then +2 thereafter. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 May 2003", 3 May 2003 - Q: Hoshi Wayan exp 2 reads... Unaligned Tattooed Monk Experienced 2 Unique Limited: Once per turn, place a Tattoo token on Wayan. Reaction: After Wayan gains a Force bonus, destroy a Tattoo token on him to raise the bonus by his Personal Honor. Errata for Wayan reads... Hoshi Wayan * May react to focusing (though his reaction is only usable during battle). [DW] * The duration of Wayan's bonus is the same as the one he's copying. * Does not receive a double bonus while The Courage of Osano-Wo is in effect. The token is not providing the bonus.
A: Those recorded rulings are for the original Hoshi Wayan. If they were for the Exp2 version, "Exp2" would appear after his name.
Wayan Exp2 only modifies the bonus he reacts to until the end of the turn. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 February 2003", 6 Feb 2003 - Q: Hoshi Wayan exp 2: Does this mean when I use his action on a weapon the bonus will not last only one turn but as long as the weapon is there?
A: Sure. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30-31 December 2002", 31 Dec 2002 - Q: 2. Hoshi Wayan exp2/ Frenzy
If Hoshi Wayan exp2 has a tattoo token on him, and his controller plays Frenzy, can he gain the extra 2 force from his reaction before Frenzy Dishonors him?
A: Yes. His Reaction is taken after he gains Force, but before the next effect of Frenzy happens. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 November 2002", 19 Nov 2002 - Q: Greetings!
Someone recently asked whether the Tattoo tokens which Hoshi Wayan Exp2 gives to himself count towards the Force bonus which the Follower Warriors of the Great Climb give to themselves.
A: They don't. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 July 2002", 2 Jul 2002 - Q: Can I make a follow-up clarification? I thought the ruling on Wayan is the duration of Wayan's bonus is the same as the original force bonus?
A: Wrong card. That's the ruling on Hoshi Wayan non-Experienced, who "gains an identical bonus to that just gained by [an] opposing Personality". By card text, Wayan's bonus was ruled to be identical in all aspects, including duration as well as amount.
Hoshi Wayan Exp2 instead has the ability to increase bonues that he himself receives. That increase is temporary. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 March 2002", 2 Mar 2002 - Q: Hoshi Wayan exp2 has been a personality of much debate in our playing circle given the potential for grossly abusing his ability. Does his ability to raise force bonuses that he receives to be increased by his personal honor included permanent bonus such the Stand As Stone card that gives a Tattooed pip a permanent +2 Force Bonus to make it +4 on Wayan. And what about Dragon Tattoo, does it give him 3: +3/+1 tokens? When Kirin shrine enters play, is that seen as a force bonus? Or are we completely off in our thinking?
A: Wayan only increases the bonus until the end of the turn. Then the bonus reverts to its original amount. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 February 2002", 1 Mar 2002 - Q: Greetings.
I have a question regarding Hoshi Wayan Exp. 2. His Reaction states: Immediately after Wayan gains a Force bonus, destroy a Tattoo token on him to raise the bonus by his Personal Honor. How does this ability combine with the following situations:
1) How long does his self-Reacted Force bonus last for? The card does not give a duration. Do we assume that they then are until the end of the turn, or until the triggering Force bonus lasts?
A: Until whichever comes first. He raises the bonus until the turn ends. Obviously, if the bonus ends before then, he'll lose it *and* his Reaction's extra since his extra is not a separate bonus. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 28-30 June", 5 Jul 2001
