Rules Q&A
- Q: 3) If my opponent plays an Encircled terrain in a battle containing one of my Ninja, if I target the ninja with the Encircled terrain at the end of the battle, and then cancel it with House of the Spring Chrysanthemum, it's cancelled in it's entirety, correct? He can't just take the action again like he could if the same action were on a perminent, correct?
A: It is completely canceled, and no, you can't just "take the action again" with a Delayed Terrain. It attempts to resolve once. If it gets Canceled, it is done with. Martin Lund, "Rules for 14 January 2005", 19 Jan 2005 - Q: Situation 1: Bane of the Bastard is targeting a face-up ninja in one of my provinces.
Situation 2: Moshi Hinome wants to steal a dead Yogo Reiko with her raid ability.
Can either of these actions be stopped with the House of the Spring Chrysanthemum?
A: The following ruling is tentative. Zen Faulkes, "What can House of the Spring Chrysanthemum cancel?", 14 Mar 2005 - Q: Bane of the Bastard is targeting a face-up ninja in one of my provinces.
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "What can House of the Spring Chrysanthemum cancel?", 14 Mar 2005 - Q: quote: (from What can House of the Spring Chrysanthemum cancel? thread)
I don't know about any ruling like that, Zen. Face-down Dynasty cards? Sure. Face-up, I don't think so. There are tons of effects that refer to specific cards in your Provinces as having traits and the like.
It is a face-up Ninja Card.
It gets targeted.
House cancels it.

Does this mean cards in the province still have their traits then? So if i had a card that said target a monk, to do so and so I could target a face up monk in my province? Or if it said target a ninja, i could target a ninja in my province i haven't even got out in play yet? Are you sure you want to do this Marty? I see the game breaking already.
A: No. Diamond rules, pg. 55: "Cards in decks, in (not attached to) Provinces, in discard piles, and in hands ... cannot normally be targeted or affected by other cards." The situations we are discussing are all Reactions triggered by effects that specifically deal with cards in Provinces, etc. Those effects avoid the above rule by their specific card text, and the Reactions responding to them avoid it in a similar way.
