- Erratum: Renamed from I Believed in You... [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 20
- Will work on Personalities whose honor requirements were ignored for purposes of coming into play (e.g., Toturi's Army stronghold) but not those ignored continually (e.g., Naga strongholds). [Reversal, DW, email, 4/7/99] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 20
Rules Q&A
- Q: if a Personality has an honor requirement of - does that mean it does not need to meet any Honor Requirement, but would other wise count as a 0?
Can you give an example of why this would matter?
I Believed in You
A: The rule on pg. 32 of the Gold Edition rulebook doesn't apply because a "-" Honor requirement is not a stat that "isn't specified or is missing." It is specified ("-") and present.
A "-" honor requirement is not zero; it is "no honor requirement." (Or, to be fancy about it, an arbitrarily large negative number.) I Believed in You looks for a specific number (like 5, 0, -2), and "-" isn't one. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2 July 2003", 3 Jul 2003 - Q: A personality with - honour requirement and I believed in You how does this work? does - count as 0?
A: "I Believed In You" will never kill a Personality with an Honor Requirement of "-". Jeff Alexander, "post for 19-22 April 2002", 23 Apr 2002 - Q: Seppuku is "bigger" than L5R rules, like the word "sensei". It gets used for a lot of things. Honorable Seppuku, Remorseful Seppuku, and I Believed in You are not the same thing as rulebook Seppuku, as many of them have completely different triggers.
A: None of them equate exactly to the samurai-response-to-Honor- loss seppuku, no, but they all fall squarely under the "death by any version of seppuku restores the Personality to Honor first" rule. Jeff Alexander, "post for 13 February 2002", 14 Feb 2002 - Q: I Believed in You Limited: Make a Personality with an Honor requirement higher than his or her controller's Family Honor "show distaste for the daimyo's actions" and commit seppuku.
Question: Does this card affect Personalities which are currently sitting face-up in the opponent's provinces and which have not yet been paid for?
A: No. Actions can generally only target cards in play. [AOF rulebook p. 48] Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 February 2002", 7 Feb 2002
