- After you reveal cards in your Provinces at the start of your turn, if this Event is face-up in one of them, until the game ends, your Scout cards in units have the ability, "Battle: Move this card's unit to a battlefield where any player has Reconnaissance. After this moves the unit, straighten it."

Rules Q&A
- Q: (W)hat I don't understand is why the card allows to unbow the unit, if the unit must be unbowed to take the action?
A: The unit does not have to be unbowed. The card using the ability has to be unbowed, following the general rule that bowed cards cannot use abilities.
These threads specifically refer to cards, not units. viewtopic.php?f=59&t=58728 viewtopic.php?f=59&t=59578 Zen Faulkes, "Ideal Conditions vs. Bowed state", 22 Feb 2009 - Q: I use (Hiruma) Tama's ability on a province. I then use another unbowed scout to move into the battle at the province Tama targeted.
A: I'm assumining you mean it moves using the ability on Ideal Conditions. Zen Faulkes, "Ideal Conditions & Hiruma Tama", 11 Sep 2007 - Q: Does the moved scout end up bowed by tamas effect or straightened still from ideal conditions straightening effect?
A: Bowed. You do all of the effects from the action granted by Ideal Conditions. The last one is to straighten. The action has now resolved, triggering Hiruma Tama's delayed effect, bowing it. Zen Faulkes, "Ideal Conditions & Hiruma Tama", 11 Sep 2007 - Q: A couple of questions in Regards to Ideal Conditions
Until the end of the game, while any of your Scout cards are in a unit, they have the ability, " Battle : Move this unit to a battlefield at a province that a Recon action targeted this turn. If the unit moved, straight it."
If on my turn I recon all of my opponents provinces and then declare an attack, can I assign no attacking infantry or cavalry, and still create a battle at each of his provinces? The point of which would be then to move my unit to the battlefield using Ideal Conditions? Relatedly (?) could I assign a unit to one battlefield (again having reconed all 4) and then Ideal Conditions into one of the three other battlefields?
On another note, on my opponents turn, if I recon all of his provinces, he attacks me, and then I play a retribution, may I move my scouts into the other provinces other than where the Retributed Unit assigned?
Reaction : After the end of an Attack Phase in which you were the Defender: Declare an additional Attack Phase against that phase's Attacker, in which neither player can invite allies and you can only assign one unit. Give the Personality and each Follower in that unit +1F after it assigns.
Thanks for your help!

A: Yes and yes. Chris Fuchs, "Ideal Conditions and attack phases", 27 Aug 2007 - Q: Ideal Conditions: Until the end of the game, while any of your Scout cards are in a unit, they have the ability, "Battle: Move this unit to a battlefield at a province that a Recon action targeted this turn. If the unit moved, straighten it."
Does the Scout card have to be unbowed to perform the action? Does the personality have to be unbowed to perform the action (1. if he is a scout; 2. if he's not a scout and got a bowed/unbowed scout follower attached)?
Thx
A: Scout cards gain the ability. That means the ability becomes part of the Scout card. It follows all the same rules any other ability on the Scout card would have to follow - including the rule about not being able to use the ability of cards while they are bowed.
You can find that rule and others governing using abilities here.
There is no particular rule requiring the Personality in a unit to be unbowed for you to use the abilities of other cards in his unit (Spells, Items, Followers, etc.). Martin Lund, "Ideal Conditions and performing", 24 Jul 2007 - Q: Ideal Conditions reads:
The SE Preview Rulebook, p. 29 reads:
Now, assume I have a bowed Daidoji Murasaki located at a battlefield that is not the current one and a battle is currently going on at another of my Provinces targeted with a Recon Open action.
Would I be able to move Daidoji Murasaki into the battle and straighten her because the ability is printed on an unbowed Event card, or would I be unable to as the event appears to give the ability to an (in this case bowed) Scout card in a unit?
Thanks in advance.
A: The event provides an ability to cards that meet its condition. The event itself does not have an ability. If a card granted this ability is bowed, it will not be able to use the ability. Chris Fuchs, "Ideal Conditions: can I move in a bowed Scout?", 28 Jun 2007 - Q: Shouldn't Ideal Conditions' Battle Ability have Tireless?
A: EDIT: See below.
Wait, actually no. That Rulebook exception was removed in Samurai Edition. Brook Cunningham, "Oracle of the Void #rules", 31 Jul 2024
