Rules Q&A
- Q: Greetings,
there's been a pretty big discussion in our playgroup since this card was previewed. Does Ayumu's trait means that he can ALSO perform Tactical Advantage as an Open, or does it mean that he can ONLY perform Tactical Advantage as an Open, making him unable to perform it as a Battle?
"Card Title Ikoma Ayumu Force/Chi 4 4 HR/GC/PH 7 8 3 Keywords Lion Clan • Hero • Samurai • Experienced • Tactician • Unique Text Will not gain Fallen or Shadowlands. The rulebook Tactical Advantage is an Open action for you if you target Ayumu with it."
Thank you very much in advance.
A: I apologize for this, but rules questions regarding Gates of Chaos cards who'll have to wait for the moment.
We will answer questions on GoC cards once the announcement in this forum is removed. Ben Higgins, "Ikoma Ayumu exp - Tactical Advantage", 14 Aug 2013 - Q: So I saw this ruling.
And was curious why the Good Faith Rule doesn't apply in this case, but does apply in situations like...
Ikoma Ayumu + Control the Board.
What is different about these two situations with regard to the Good Faith Rule that allows one but not the other?
A: Good Faith doesn't apply to this situation. The sequence of play simply doesn't allow it.
The Personality in question will only gain Shadowlands AFTER the restriction of the Stronghold is checked.
In Ayumu's case, he's straightening before the performance restriction is checked. Brook Cunningham, "Legacy: Imperial Palace of Fu Leng", 28 Dec 2011 - Q: Quick question that came up today:
If I control Ikoma Ayumu bowed, can I announce Control the Board, straighten Ayumu with his reaction and pay the cost of Control the Board with him?
What about if he's the only personality I have? Does the good faith rule prevents me from doing that?
Thanks,
Javier
A: Yes, you may do as you describe.
It's actually the Good Faith Rule that ALLOWS you to do so, for it's your intent to, in good faith, bring about a legal sequence of play by usuing Ayumu in Reaction to Control the Board's announcement. Brook Cunningham, "Ikoma Ayumu + Control the Board", 2 Sep 2011
