Rules Q&A
- Q: Behalf Of Kaiten Akodo
Sorry to say but you're both wrong. Let's take Akodo Tadenori and Ikoma Junjin. Say you wanted 3 of Tadenori in your deck but only had 2 so you threw in a Gunjin. If you played family tactics "Akodo", Tadenori would get it but not Gunjin, if you played family tactics "Ikoma", Gunjin would get it, not the Tadenori's
A: That is true in Open. If you're playing Strict Gold, all three of those get played by Akodo Tadenori's wording from Gold Edition, right down to the smallest detail. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 February 2002", 1 Mar 2002 - Q: Iuchi Plains region gives a -1F penalty to all infantry personality followers and personalities. The rulebook says penalties can only drop a personality to 0, but the penalty applies if a bonus brings the person above 0. I just want to make sure on the following. I attack a province that has iuchi plains on it. I attack with an Ikoma Gunjin (tactician, printed force 3) who has attached a Elite Medium Infantry (printed force 3). If I am understanding this correctly, then Gunjin stays at 0 force, but he really has -1 due to the penalty. So if I burn a card with focus 4 for his tactician trait, then his force is only 3, the -1 applies there. So the force of the unit is 3+2=5. I just want to make sure that is correct.
A: Absolutely correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 16 December 2001", 16 Dec 2001 - Q: Example: Ikoma Gunjin attacks, and uses his Tactician ability for something else. He Charges, giving him 3 force. The defending player drop another Uncertainty (-2,-2). The attacking player plays a Battle of Shallow Waters. At resolution Gunjin has 1 force, because his force bonus was reduced, he was not assigned a force penalty.
A: Hey, this is the same example as the last one! Anyways, assigning a penalty when someone has a bonus in effect is *not* the same thing as modifiying that bonus. If there is a positive effect in place that reduces someones force explicitly, then BSW will cancel it. Gunjin has 3 force. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for November 13th", 13 Nov 2000
