Rules Q&A
- Q: Zen said: "Incidentally, a dishonored Personality can refuse Imperial Adjudication. Dishonoring is an effect of refusal, not a requirement for refusal."
Isn't being honourable a requirement for the option to refuse an Imperial Adjudication?
"If that Personality is honorable, his controller looks at the top three cards of his Fate Deck, then may refuse the duel"
A: Doncha hate it when you misread cards? You are correct. Sorry. Zen Faulkes, "Armor of the Heavens", 13 Nov 2009 - Q: When a dishonor personality with armor of the heavens attached is target by Imperial Adjudication, Does the dishonor personality rehonor and thus be able to refuse the duel?
A: Because Armor of the Heavens responds to targeting, which comes before effects, the Reaction will occur and resolve before the Personality does anything in the duel.
If you choose to gain 2 Honour, your Personality is rehonoured and can then refuse the duel. [Incorrect statement removed: see correction, below.] Zen Faulkes, "Armor of the Heavens", 12 Nov 2009 - Q: I control Tsuruchi Onaka, and target the opponent's HouHou with Onaka's Open action. I use a duelist to play Imperial Adjudication, targeting the dishonorable HouHou. I win the duel. Before the turn ends, does HouHou get rehonored even though he's out-of-play?
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Effects#Effects ... ut_of_play: "When an effect is activated, it will only apply to cards that at the time of activation are either in play, or in a temporary focusing, entering-play, or resolution area, unless the effect:
"specifies an out of play area," Does not apply.
"is triggered by a card entering an out of play area (such as, being destroyed or discarded from the hand)," Does not apply.
"uses wording such as “all Samurai in and out of play”," Does not apply.
"is a continuous effect from a card out of play, in which case it affects only that card." Does not apply. Zen Faulkes, "Tsuruchi Onaka + Rehonored Dead Personality", 25 Aug 2009 - Q: I was doing a search for cards with Iaijutsu and found that Imperial Adjudication has Iajutsu, while similar is this a typo or on purpose? If purposeful then am I correct in assuming that I cannot show Imperial Adjudication as part of the cost for half-breath strike?
A: Do not necessarily trust the previews you see on sites other than Alderac.
Imperial Adjudication has the Iaijutsu keyword. Dan Jacobson, "typo on imperial adjudication?", 26 May 2009 - Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=75554
Regarding the said ruling:
Open: Target your unbowed Duelist: He challenges another player's target Personality. If that Personality is honorable, his controller looks at the top three cards of his Fate Deck, then may refuse the duel; if he refuses, bow and dishonor the Personality, and discard those cards. Destroy the duel's loser.
From my understanding, being honorable lets you take a look at your top 3 cards before refusing, whilst being dishonored doesn't let you. Am I correct?
Thanks!
A: The previous ruling is correct. The condition applies to both the drawing of cards and the refusal. Zen Faulkes, "Imperial Adjudication", 2 May 2009 - Q: Imperial Adjudication Action cost: 4 focus: 3 legal: CE text: Iajutsu • Imperial • Political Open: Target your unbowed Duelist: He challenges another player's target Personality. querry: "If that Personality is honorable.." What if the personality is dishonorable? May not be refused?
Thank you.
