Rules Q&A
- Q: My turn starts. I have no personalities in play. All of my opponent's personalities are bowed. I reveal Imperial Levying. Since IL checks unit force, are all his units destroyed? And if so, does he get zero honor because that's the combined force of the units?
A: Yes. Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 18 December 2003, Part 2", 19 Dec 2003 - Q: 1) If there are only a Toku in play when an "Imperial Levying" appears in my province what's happen? he is destroyed even with 0 force? Or "0" isn't force for this purpose?
A: Toku, being the highest force personality in the whole Empire, is summoned to serve the Emperor. However, due to his current lack of military prowess (but great potential!), the Emperor neglects to speak of you as highly as he might have, should you have contributed a greater force to his cause. In other words, Toku vanishes and you gain 0 honor. This is an actual 0 point gain, and can be Reacted to. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 22nd, Part Two", 22 Aug 2001 - Q: Do either of the following cards target:
Imperial Levying Retirement
Thanks!
A: No.
http://rules.l5r.com/Older_Cards#Abilities_and_actions_3:
"For cards printed prior to DAWN OF THE EMPIRE: Abilities and actions ... An action targets whenever it requires a choice to be made of what card it affects, or what card pays the non-gold costs of the action."
Those Events don't have actions, first of all. And, even if we consider that the above rule should be broader and apply to all effects rather than just actions, you have no choice as to what the Events affect; it's always the Personalities with the highest Force or Chi (respectively).
