Rulings
- Q: Can a Personality who can attach Spells but not Items attach Inazuma Blade? A: No. The Personality must be able to attach both Spells and Items -- as well as have room free for a Weapon -- to attach this card. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, April 26, 2004, p. 15
Rules Q&A
- Q: Situation: Player A has Nobuyoki and Yajinden out. Yajinden has an Inazuma Blade equipped. Tamori bows to reduce the Inazuma Blade from a +3 to a +0 thus giving Yajinden a loss of 3 Chi (as per previous official rulings regarding loss of Chi from weapons on this forum)
A: Incorrect. Refer to the Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 62:
"Any time the current number on a card changes from one value to a higher value, that number is receiving a 'bonus' - unless the reason for the increase is that a penalty expired or an existing penalty or bonus changed. Likewise, if a number decreases, it's receiving a 'penalty.'"
Yajinden's chi is being reduced because the existing +3 Bonus from Inazuma Blade has been changed. As noted above, this - does not - qualify as a Chi Penalty to Yajinden. The Inazuma Blade sure got a penalty, but not the personality. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 July 2004", 4 Aug 2004 - Q: Can a non-shugenja attach Inazuma Blade?
A: Only if he or she can attach spells. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30 November 2003", 1 Dec 2003 - Q: mlund wrote:
So, basically, your question is in regards to giving a Bonus to an attached card that gives a bonus to the Personality? It works pretty simply.
If a +2F attachments gains a 2F bonus, it is a +4F attachment and confers +4F on its Personality rather than +2F.
If an attachment does not give its Personality a bonus (most Followers and Spells), then giving the card a Force Bonus will not cause it to start giving the Personality a Force Bonus. In the case of Bleak Portents, the card doesn't even have a Force stat, so you have to use the rules on page 63 in italics (effects trying to change the stat fail to affect it).
So your Mage is 3F +1 (Spawning Grounds) +4 (Suchiro no Oni) +2 (Portents) for a total of 10F.

Ok so looking at 63 says cards that normally dont particular traits or stats will cause effects to fail. However, Inazuma Blade does confer a force and chi bonus. Is this possible ONLY because its also considered an item?
Thanks,
A: It is possible because the card is printed with "+3" in the spot where a card's Force goes and "+3" in the spot when a card's Chi goes. Martin Lund, "Clarification of bleak portents question", 23 Mar 2005
