Rules Q&A
- Q: Question:
Why the Inexorable Defeat is not Absent Battle in the Oracle of the Void?
Broken Alliance is an Absent Battle in the Oracle of the Void but Broken Alliance and Inexorable Defeat have the same card text:
"If there are enemy units at the current battlefield, choose your performing personality: Move him there."
A: Keeping the Oracle's text current is an ongoing project. Obviously it has not gotten to Inexorable Defeat at this point.
In general, when playing in Legacy, Big Deck and Modern formats, the intent is for cards to work as they functioned when they were legal. Since Inexorable Defeat's Battle ability (but not its Battle/Open) was an Absent Battle at the time, please play as such. Jon Palmer, "Broken Alliance and Inexorable Defeat", 8 Dec 2014 - Q: Does Inexorable Defeat prevent Will from bringing a dead Personality into play at the current battlefield?
A: Entering play is not moving. No. Zen Faulkes, "Inexorable defeat vs will?", 28 Jul 2010 - Q: Can I play Inexorable Defeat on a personality that I have used Enticement on, knowing that the movement will fail, just to lose the 2 honor and commit seppuku?
A: Yes.
If the question is, "Does 'Your" mean I control it or own it?", generally the latter. http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_X-Z Zen Faulkes, "Inexorable Defeat + Enticement", 6 Jul 2010 - Q: My question is concerning the following part of Inexorable Defeat:
Battle: If any enemy units are at the current battlefield, choose your performing Personality: Move him there. Straighten his unit if he moved. You scorch the earth behind him. If he moved, negate the movement of any other units to the battlefield. Lose 2 Honor.
If a unit is moved in using this battle action and then sent home, does it negate the movement of other units to that battlefield, or does it negate the movement of all units to that battlefield? Basically, can multiple copies of this card be used as long as it is on the same unit?
A: You may use multiple copies on the same unit. Barring any other effects, it will move that unit (and that unit alone) to the battlefield. Dan Jacobson, "Inexorable Defeat", 22 Jun 2010
