Rules Q&A
- Q: If I am facing a Phoenix Clan or Dragon Clan player and they resolve their virtue. Can I react with Isawa Kimi's reaction on the card they named (or card with that focus value) and force them to discard a card? Or does the draw come from the virtue and the window for Kimi's reaction has closed? Thank you!
Isawa Kimi: Reaction: Even if Kimi is bowed, after the resolution of an action that put any cards into another player's hand: That player chooses and discards a card from his hand.
Honesty of the Phoenix: Battle/Open: If you are a Phoenix Clan player, choose your performing unbowed Phoenix Clan Personality: Name a card. After the next resolution this turn from your action from another Strategy or Ring with that title, draw a card, and choose a player, who discards a card. Remove this card from the game.
A: The window would be closed at that point, as the draw is a delayed effect. Jon Palmer, "Isawa Kimi xp2 vs Honesty or Sincerity", 23 Apr 2012 - Q: I have a question regarding drawing vs putting cards in your hand, namely are they the same thing or does the card only affect effects that say to "put a card in your hand"? As an example I would like to use the text from Isawa Kimi's reaction. Specifically does it trigger off of Temple of Gisei Toshi (phrased using "put") and Traveling Peddler (phrased using "draw")
Relevant Text: Isawa Kimi Reaction: Even if Kimi is bowed, after the resolution of an action that put any cards into another player's hand: That player chooses and discards a card from his hand.
Temple of Gisei Toshi Limited: Bow this card: Name "Follower", "Item", or "Spell". Look at the top four cards of your Fate deck. You may show one of those cards that is of the type you named, then put it in your hand.
Traveling Peddler Limited: Bow this card and pay 3 Gold: Draw a card.
A: Glossary, Draw: To draw a card means to put the top card of one's Fate deck into one's hand. Alex Jones, "Drawing vs "Put in Hand" Clarification Version 2.0", 8 Apr 2012 - Q: Regarding this:

How is this interaction any different than the interaction between Game of Dice and Isawa Kimi xp2?

Regards,
A: The wording is different.
Shiro Chugo sets up an ongoing effect that will reduce any gain or loss from the action's effects by 2. It isn't checking to see whether or not the action caused the gain during its resolution (as most actions do) or at a later point - the reduction is triggered when the gain happens (as long as it happens in the same turn).
Kimi, on the other hand, requires the resolution of an action that put cards into a player's hand. A Game of Dice is not an action that put cards into a player's hand at the time it resolves, and therefore is not a valid trigger for Kimi. Jon Palmer, "Tamori Kazushige vs. Shiro Chugo follow up", 4 Apr 2012 - Q: First of all, sorry if it was posted already but i didnt find it.
Basically this: how does these two cards interact?
Based on this rulling for Toritaka Horoiso and lying in ambush (CE), i would think that A game of dice resolves long before you draw the additional cards, so you shouldnt be able to react with Kimi. If this is not the case, could you explain how the interaction works?
Thanks!
Isawa Kimi: Reaction: Even if Kimi is bowed, after the resolution of an action that put any cards into another player's hand: That player chooses and discards a card from his hand.
A game of Dice: Limited: Draw two additional cards during your next End Phase.
A: You are correct. Kimi's reaction will do nothing to the player of A Game of Dice. Jon Palmer, "Isawa Kimi and A Game of Dice", 13 Mar 2012
