- Q: Some shugenja, like Isawa Natsune, can't bow to produce spell effects. What if something like Celestial Alignment is in play, which lets shugenja cast spells without bowing? A: Then he can cast them. Natsune isn't completely incapable of casting spells, he's just out of practice and can only cast them if something makes it easier. Also, he's allowed to bow to assist Rituals, since the tulebook says only the primary shugenja is considered to be casting the spell. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 5

Rules Q&A
- Q: Isawa Natsune says he may not bow to produce spell effects but say i had celestial alignment resolve could he then cast a kiho or spell?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 September 2002", 25 Sep 2002 - Q: Isawa Natsune reads:
Text Phoenix Clan Librarian. Shugenja Natsune may hold any number of spells. Natsune may not bow to produce spell effects. All spells being attached to Natsune have their gold cost reduced by four.
The fact that Natsune may hold any number of spells implies that there is a limit to the number of spells a normal shugenja may hold. Is there such a limit and if so what is it?
A: There used to be such a limit, but that was removed some years ago. Zen Faulkes, "Isawa Natsune", 29 Nov 2009 - Q: Do the bolded texts mean that they are uncapable of paying the costs of a spell that has "bow this shugenja" as a cost or that they may waive the cost of bowing?
A: The former. Zen Faulkes, "Isawa Natsune, Asako Togama", 27 Nov 2009
