Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Isawa Tsuke 3F/2C 5HR 12G 2PH Phoenix Clan Shugenja. Master of Fire. Unique. Limited Elemental: Bow and play a Fate card face down. Issue a Challenge that cannot be refused. Isawa cannot focus, but the fate card played acts as a focus. Tsuke cannot be killed by the outcome of this duel." [MRP, Obsidian Edition] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 106
- Tsuke loses a tied duel, but doesn't die. [Card text] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 106
- The face-down card is not a focus. Reactions played with a focus or instead of focusing cannot be played in response. [8/11/99] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 106
- Surviving a duel is not the same as winning it. Tsuke is still considered to have lost in a tied duel -- he just doesn't die. [card text] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 34
- Erratum: Treat beginning the duel as issuing a challenge which cannot be refused. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 16
- Q: Speaking of unkillable duelists, what about the Master of Fire? A: He's not unkillable. He's only immune to death due to losing a duel started with his own Innate Ability. If he is challenged, or if he starts a duel using some other ability, he's as mortal as anyone else. He can also die from a Poisoned Weapon, which lasts beyond the duel. The Imperial Herald, Vol. 1, Issue 3, p. 7
- Q: "He"? I thought the Fire Master was female! A: Maybe. Maybe not. The Phoenix are very good at misinformation. The Imperial Herald, Vol. 1, Issue 3, p. 7
Rules Q&A
- Q: Can Smoke & Mirrors be used to discard a focus played by Isawa Ochiai to issue a duel, or by Isawa Tsuke before the duel begins?
A: Yes. If it was their "last focus" at the time you can play Smoke and Mirrors. Martin Lund, "Rules for 26 April 2004", 29 Apr 2004
