Rulings
- Can target a Personality with attached Followers. This still counts as a Ranged Attack; Reactions and traits involving Ranged Attacks apply. [Clarification, Fire & Shadow rulebook] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 52
- Read this card literally. It can be used by any Personality with any sort of Ranged Attack at all. The actual characteristics and targetting requirements of that Ranged Attack are irrelevant -- only those of the Arrow are used. [DW, l5rinfo, 9/25/96] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 21
- Clarified: may target any opposing card, including a Personality with Followers. Its status as a Ranged Attack is only to allow it to be affected by traits and Reactions. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 6
Rules Q&A
- Q: Maybe I missed it, but was there ever an official answer from the rules team on the interraction of Stars Scatter and Jade Arrow?
A: Yes. The original ruling stands. It's legal and it works, provided you can increase the Jade Arrow's attack strength above 0. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30-31 January 2003", 1 Feb 2003 - Q: And if one of the ranged attacks was a Jade Arrow, does that mean that all of my RA's destroy opposing cards with their ranged attacks?
A: You know, I don't think anyone has ever thought to combine a Jade Arrow ranged attack with others, since it's normally pointless, but it looks like this combo works -- and is necessary to play Stars Scatter. And, unfortunately, it looks like it might be too strong, since Stars Scatter lets you split the attack into an unlimited number of strength 0 attacks if you wish. That will destroy the entire opposing army every time. I'll see what the Rules Team wants to do. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 December 2002", 11 Dec 2002 - Q: I know ranged attacks can target more than personalities and followers: Crystal Arrow and Jade Arrow can be used to destroy tainted items for instance.
A: As I learned a few weeks ago, it's a really bad idea to try and base Ranged Attack precedents off of Crystal/Jade Arrow. Without explicit wording (and following errata of clear intent) such as the Jade/Crystal Arrows have, assume that all Ranged Attacks follow normal targeting rules.
