Rulings
- "All players may use this ability" only allows players other than the controller to use it, and does not override any other restriction. [JA, 10 January 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 44
Rules Q&A
- Q: Can I Jester someone, if they refuse my I. Challenge?
A: No. The loss is not due to "one of his or her own cards" (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 25 November 2003, Part 2", 26 Nov 2003 - Q: Does Jester it give the bonus when it's bowed?
A: Yes (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 55). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 19 August 2003, Part 2", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: Can Jester double the lost of refusing a Iaijutsu Challenge?
A: No. The loss is not due to "one of his or her own cards" (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 19 August 2003, Part 2", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: Can Jester be attach to a dishonred personality with 3 Personal Honor[?]
A: Yes (card text). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 19 August 2003, Part 2", 20 Aug 2003 - Q: I have Jester attached to Hiruma Tatsuzo, I bow the Jester to cancel an action targeting the unit. Is Hiruma Tatsuzo's force still 5 and his chi still 5 or are they 4??
A: "Bowing does not affect Follower bonuses with a "+" sign, Item bonuses of any kind, or Chi." [GE p. 55]
Tatsuzo is still 5F/5C. Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 May 2003", 13 May 2003 - Q: My opponent challenges one of my personalities, I refuse. I use Wind's Truth to redirect the honor loss back to him. Can I use someone's Jester to double his honor loss?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 22 April 2003", 23 Apr 2003 - Q: * I controll Jester, and play Iai. Challenge on one of my opponents personalities, he refusees, can I double the lose with Jester?
A: No. Refusing an Iaijutsu Challenge is neither playing a card nor performing an action. Jester's Reaction can't be used. [card text] Jeff Alexander, "post for 24 March 2003", 25 Mar 2003 - Q: The follower card JESTER reads as follows:
Political Reaction: Bow Jester before a player loses Honor due to one of his or her own cards or actions to double the loss. All players may use this ability.
There is a disagreement among the players in my area on how this is supposed to work.
Some believe that if the follower is in plan in any players fife, then any player (except Shadowlands) can bow the Jester for its reaction. For example, Player A has a Jester in play. Player C brings out a Corrupt Iron Mine. By this logic Player B could bow Player A's Jester to causing Player C to double his honor loss.
A: This is correct. "All players may use this ability," as opposed to just its controller, which is the normal rule. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 January 2003", 11 Jan 2003
