- Q: Once I've used Kaede Sensei's ability, will my ability to achieve an Honor Victory be restored if she gets destroyed or neutralized? A: Destroyed or discarded, no. "Prevented from affecting play," yes, but only for the duration that the Sensei is suppressed. The Imperial Herald, Issue 12, p. 33
Rules Q&A
- Q: Just a (not so) "quick snap" question, how can one use Forgotten Lesson to achieve an honor victory prevented by Kaede Sensei or Shoju Sensei? Say that I am at 54 honor at the start of my opponent's turn, and he has used Shoju Sensei to prevent an honor victory. I would achieve an honor victory if the Sensei's ability was prevented at the start of my events phase correct? And an Open action that lasts until the end of the turn can never have effect during the events phase right? So how does this work?
A: Forgotten Lesson says, "Open: Target a sensei card. The card does not affect play until the end of the turn."
It will expire at the end of the turn it is played. It won't be in effect at the beginning of the next turn, so you can't use it to sneak in an honor-victory.
Just get yourself a copy of Dashmar nonexp. if you want to win due to having high honor and still play Kaede Sensei. :) Martin Lund, "Rules for 14 May 2004", 17 May 2004 - Q: A player that renounces to win an honor victory or loses this ability is affected by Death of the Ki-rin?
He is no longer affected if he loses that path to victory.
I was under the impression that the condition "normally able to win an honor victory" prevented an SH that had lost it's ability to win by honor (by using Kaede Sensei for example) from escaping DotK-R. Strongholds that explicitly prevented winning by Honor (Ruined Fortress, Iron Citadel, any Shadowlands, etc.) were the only ones not bound by DotK-R.
A: Note carefully, boys and girls. This is why you shouldn't trust spoiler lists. All too often they're missing that one crucial word that's on the real-life card. (Sadly, it's not really an option for me, given how much reference is involved in answering these questions and how much other work I need to get done in a day.)
Death of the Ki-Rin cares about whether you, with your Stronghold, are normally able to win by Honor, not whether you currently are.
I'm going to make an intent-based ruling that the caster of the Iron Citadel is considered "normally unable to win an honor victory" and unaffected by the event, despite the fact that the inability to win through honor is actually an effect of the spell and not a trait of your new Stronghold. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 March 2002", 9 Mar 2002 - Q: May I ...
- achieve an Honor victory after using my Kaede Sensei but playing Amnesia to "forget" that I can't win by honor?
A: Amnesia can only target another player's Sensei, so, no, you cannot. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 22-23 September 2001", 24 Sep 2001 - Q: I just wanted to know if you can Amnesia your own Kaede Sensei in order to win an honor victory.
A: Amnesia can only target another player's Sensei, by card text. (Also, while Forgotten Lesson can target your own, it can't be played until the Action Phase and only lasts until the end of the turn, so will never be in effect when the check for an Honor Victory is made. You can't use either to get around your own Kaede Sense.) Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 20-21 February 2001", 24 Feb 2001 - Q: 8. Is otomo sensei really as good as it seems for screwing Kaede Sensei?
A: Eh. It's okay. I was much more impressed with its ability to stop Taeruko/Crevasse tricks than I was with its uses against Kaede decks. Slowing down their gold seems to work even better than messing with their Rings does, anyways. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for January 10th", 10 Jan 2001
