- Q: Does Kakita Chiyeko's Reaction let her issue challenges while bowed? A: Yes. Chiyeko basically gets to issue challenges as though she were unbowed at all times. Her Reaction works retroactively. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, October 2003, p. 12
- Q: Does Kakita Chiyeko's Reaction let her issue challenges while bowed? How does she work with cards like Judgment? A: Chiyeko basically gets to issue challenges as though she were unbowed at all times. Her Reaction works retroactively. For cards like Judgment, which have a cost of bowing the challenger but no limit on the number of uses per turn, Chiyeko may make an unlimited number of challenges. Rules Q&A
- Q: Let's say that a player has Kakita Chiyeko bowed in a battle. He plays a Steel on Steel, using Chiyeko's Reaction, but his opponent negates the unbowing with Victory of the Wolf. What happens in this situation?
A: He's failed to pay the Cost of the Action. The Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 72, paragraph 3, addresses this.
To summarize, the player gets Steel on Steel back wherever it came from (probably his hand), no other costs are refunded, and the attempt is Canceled. The next player now gets an opportunity to take a Battle or Open Action, or Pass. The player whose Action was canceled does not count as having Passed. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 October 2004", 4 Oct 2004 - Q: Kakita Chiyeko + Freezing lifeblood: how does it exactly worked ? i.e may i issue Jaji Challenge with Kakita Chiyeko with freezing lifeblood token?
A: No. Chiyeko's ability will not successfully unbow her when she has a Sleep Token, so she can't play an Action that creates a challenge with one of your Chiyeko in such a condition as the Challenger. Martin Lund, "Rules for 17 May 2004", 19 May 2004 - Q: I'd like to hear some official explanation of how and why this works that way. Below are some problems that I can't seem to correct.
Chiyeko's ability is, "Reaction: Straighten Chiyeko before she issues or receives a challenge. Bow Chiyeko after the duel ends."
A: Yep. And that's why she works the way she does. Jeff Alexander, "post for 23 May 2003", 29 May 2003 - Q: Kakita Chiyeko can use the Kakita Dojo ability to move into a duel when she is bowed can she not?
A: No. Chiyeko needs to issue or receive the challenge to use her Reaction. [card text] Kyuden Doji is used after the challenge is issued, and swaps someone into the duel who neither challenged nor received a challenge. Jeff Alexander, "post for 21 May 2003", 22 May 2003 - Q: Kakita Chiyeko says Reaction: Straighten Chiyeko before she issues or recieves a challange. Bow Chiyeko after the duel ends. Let us say I loaded up Kakita Chiyeko with Judgement, an Inkyo, and Atarsi's Armor. I decided to double chi her. Theoretically, if my opponent is completly dishonored..say from imperial funeral. Could, I in theory challange each of my opponents personalities, during that turn, assuming I won each of those duels, and kill off my opponents entire personality base?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 16 May 2003", 21 May 2003 - Q: If Kakita Chiyeko has the Courtier trait, can she be used to pay the cost and issue duels with Make Your Stand while she's bowed?
A: I'll open with this: Kakita Chiyeko herself works the way she does because Dave Williams says so. She's not a precedent for any other cards or interactions.
Chiyeko is supposed to be able to unbow herself to be able to legally issue challenges, including challenges with a cost of bowing her. Chiyeko could issue challenges with Judgement which said, "Limited: This Personality bows to issue an unrefusable challenge to a Dishonored Personality."
In for that point, Chiyeko's bowed status won't stop her from doing this action. Martin Lund, "Chiyeko and Make Your Stand", 28 Mar 2005
