Rules Q&A
- Q: Some personalities, like Bayushi Mijako and Kakita Noritoshi XP 3 have traits that alter the focus value on one of their focused card. What happens first: Kakita Hideo XP reaction, or those traits?
A: Reactions are always applied last: http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Timing#Resolvin ... _conflicts Zen Faulkes, "Kakita Hideo XP vs Focus altering traits", 3 Mar 2011 - Q: Let's say that I use enticement to gain control of my opponent's Kakita Hideo. In my dynasty phase, I overlay that Kakita Hideo with my own experienced version of Kakita Hideo. What happens at the end of the turn in this scenario?
A: What happens is, you have just given your opponent a generous gift. Enticement's delayed effect returning Hideo to control of your opponent will still occur, even though you overlayed him.
Overlaying: "For purposes of delayed effects on a particular card... the overlaid card is considered to be the same card as the underlying card." Brook Cunningham, "enticement and overlay", 25 Dec 2010 - Q: I announce Steel on Steel being performed by Kakita Hideo xp, and my opponent reacts with Only Actions Speak... (W)ill Only Actions Speak negate that honor gain?
A: Yes. Winning is at step H in this sequence, well before the action resolves. Zen Faulkes, "Only Actions Speak and Kakita Hideo xp", 29 Jun 2010 - Q: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=80355
So the first post specifically asks if Kakita Hideo XP would NOT rehonor because of his trait. A rules junta says he is right, because traits are not performed, and cites a rule. Another rules junta follows up to say Kakita Hideo XP DOES rehonor, citing a rule. Umm......confusion ensues for me.
A: Read the statements carefully.
Zen states that traits are never performed. This is true.
However, Hideo xp rehonors because the honor gain comes from a trait on his card. This is also true.
There is more than one way to rehonor a personality. Dan Jacobson, "RE: "Traits are never performed"", 4 Dec 2009
