Rules Q&A
- Q: "Reactions played before or with the action causing the challenge are legal, e.g., those that cancel it."
That means for example, if that a scorpion player accepts a challenge from Kakita Rensei, he can replace it with B. Kwanchai ?
A: No. Kwanchai is used "when any Scorpion Clan Personality enters a duel". That means:
An action creating a challenge has resolved... A challenge has been issued... The chalenge has been accepted... And a duel has started.
Restrictions against reactions "during" or while "in" a duel are very, very much in effect at this point. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 March 2003", 19 Mar 2003 - Q: Hi Jeff, I'm attending a Season of the Lion tournament on Saturday and I was wondering about a few things.
Kakita Rensei and the Oracle of Fire. Relevent text on Rensei: The player of a Personality dueling Rensei cannot play Reactions The Oracle of Fire reads Elemental Reaction: Before a duel begins, if your personality can focus, bow the Oracle of Fire and pay 1 gold to play your fate deck's top card as an extra Focus card. Does the wording on the Oracle get around Rensei? I would say yes given that the personality isn't "dueling Rensei" when the Oracle triggers which is "before a duel begins".
A: You are correct. Reactions taken before the Personalities enter the duel are not prohibited by Rensei. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 June 2002", 6 Jun 2002 - Q: Hi there. If anyone could answer this :
When is a personality considered to be in a duel ? This question is about 'Bayushi Kwanchai' and 'Kakita Rensei'. Can Kwanchai use his ability or not when a Scorpion personality is challenged by Rensei ? Can the challenged personality use the Kiho Double-Chi in front of Rensei ?....
A: No and no. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 November 2001", 8 Nov 2001 - Q: 2) Can someone play Shosuro Technique (the reaction) when dueling Kakita Rensei? Is a reaction to entering a duel in a duel?
A: I'm going to say "no" and "yes" to these, respectively. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: 3) Is Kakita Rensei a man or a women? (Sorry, I just can't tell with those wacky Cranes!)
A: Probably a man. Rich should know. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 October 2001", 30 Oct 2001 - Q: Can you play Doubt on Kakita Rensei since it happens as Rensei enters the duel and not during? Can Kwanchai intercept a duel from Rensei? Can you ShoTech against Rensei?
A: No, no, and no. Only Reactions worded to take place before your Personality enters the duel are legal. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 October 2001", 11 Oct 2001
