- The last one played takes precedence. Always takes precedence over a Tetsubo, as it's always played "after" the Tetsubo's continuous effect. Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 36
Rules Q&A
- Q: Now I am playing with Kyuden Doji, I Iajutsu Challenge with Okakura (personal honor =2), my oponent accepts. As he has the first go on reactions, he plays Kakita Technique with a 3 ersonal honor personality, I proceed to react and switch Okakura with Kurohito exp (4 personal honor). Who gets to focus first?
A: Your opponent. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 May 2003", 2 May 2003 - Q: Can I use the Reaction on Blade of Truths to name a focus 3 to prevent the opposing duelist from playing kakita technique?
A: No, due to card text. Kakita Technique is played "when" a Personality enters a duel; Blade of Truths is played "after." Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 April 2003, Part 2", 18 Apr 2003 - Q: OK, what about Kakita Technique? From Legendary:
Reaction: Play this card when one of your Personalities enters a duel against a Personality with lower Personal Honor. Your Personality has the first option to focus or strike.
It clearly targets, by the Gold Ed targeting rules,
A: Nope. It "alters general gameplay". Not targeted, by rule #3. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 February 2003", 6 Feb 2003 - Q: Kakita Technique
A: Untargeted by rule #3. Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 August 2002", 23 Aug 2002 - Q: To Jeff & The Rulz Posse-
Say I'm running O-Ushi Sensei. My personality has 4 Force and 1 Personal Honor. My opponent's personality, with his 3 Personal Honor, challenges my guy to a duel. I accept. Can he use Kakita Technique? Or could I substitute my guy's Force for Personal Honor in this situation?
A: You could make it check your Force instead, but it's already been played. You are not canceling it, and the action does not have any affect on your Personality, so making yourself an illegal target for it will not stop it from applying to your opponent and letting him strike first. Jeff Alexander, "post for 10 June 2002", 11 Jun 2002 - Q: but what if I also use cards like Tetsubo or Kakita Technique, who gets to strike first then?
A: Whichever of these cards goes into effect last is the only one that matters. Tetsubo will always go into effect first, being a trait that's always present. Coward's Way and Kakita Technique both have the same trigger and timing, so you can play them in either order. I recommend Coward's Way first. Jeff Alexander, "post for 5 April 2002 pt. 2", 8 Apr 2002 - Q: And related Oracle of Fire questions. In an Iaijutsu Art duel I am assuming that if someone uses the Oracle it counts as that personalities one focus for the duel - can that player then use Kakita Technique to then strike?
Yes. Ow. ps. Ithought both players had to focus in an Iaijutsu Art, or am I wrong?
A: They must focus if possible, but the timing is that of a normal duel. If one player can legally strike before the other gets the chance to focus, the duel goes into resolution and the chance never comes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 16 January 2002", 17 Jan 2002 - Q: And related Oracle of Fire questions. In an Iaijutsu Art duel I am assuming that if someone uses the Oracle it counts as that personalities one focus for the duel - can that player then use Kakita Technique to then strike?
A: Yes. Ow. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 January 2002", 16 Jan 2002 - Q: Suppose a 5ph personality challenges (or is challenged by) Mirumoto Exp7. The controller of the 5ph personality, say Doji Kurohito Exp2, uses Kakita Technique. Which personality gets to focus first (in both cases)?
[Mod edit: Thread title. -ZF]
A: Mirumoto's trait triggers well after the trigger for Kakita Technique. Mirumoto will always focus first vs Kakita Technique. Chris Fuchs, "Mirumoto Exp7 vs. Kakita Technique", 1 Jul 2007
