Rulings
- You may not use the Reaction unless you are the Attacker. The Attacker is the only player destroying the Province. [l5rinfo, 3/10/99] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 15
Rules Q&A
- Q: I play deadly ground and I have enough force to destroy the province. Can I use the reaction of the Armor to put the ring of Earth into play, or does Deadly Ground prevent me to do so ?
A: Deadly Ground stays in force during the Resolution Segment (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 58), and thus prevents the action. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 5 October 2003, Part 2", 5 Oct 2003 - Q: With Armor of Osano-Wo, it doesn't say that you have to destroy a province, just declare an attack against one, right? Or do you have to actually win a battle as an attacker, and instead of destroying put the Ring of Earth into play? I'm getting confused....
A: MRP text: "Elemental Reaction: If you are the Attacker, instead of destroying the Province that this Personality is attacking, put the Ring of Earth into play." If you are the Attacker and about to destroy the Province that the Armor's unit is attacking (typically through battle resolution), you may use the Armor to negate the destruction and play the Ring of Earth. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 May 2003", 29 May 2003 - Q: Ring of Water: How does it interact with the following two cards: Armor of Osano-Wo: since the Ring says "_after_ a battle in which you... destroyed an opposing army or province..." and the armor says "Instead of destroying the Province that this Personality is attacking, you may put the Ring of Earth into play.", I assume you cannot play both Rings after the same battle.
A: You could. You could respond to the Province destruction with Armor of Osano-Wo, and to the army's destruction with the Ring of Water (that the Ring of Water can be triggered when you smack an army is a fact you quoted yourself!). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 29 November 2002", 30 Nov 2002 - Q: If I attack a Province and my opponent defends and I win the battle and have enough force to destroy the Province but instead use the reaction from the Armor of Osano-Wo to put the Ring of Earth into play could I then play Pointless Sacrifice pay the eight gold and destroy the Province?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 November 2002", 9 Nov 2002 - Q: Or the opposite, if I win the battle and do not have enough Force to destroy the Province could I play Pointless Sacrifice to desrtoy the Province and then use the Armor of Osano-Wo to not destroy the Province and play the Ring of Earth
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 November 2002", 9 Nov 2002 - Q: Can the Candle of the Void and its related items be used to put into play the Dark Rings? What about the Armor of Osano-Wo?
A: Yes and yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 October 2002", 18 Oct 2002 - Q: A Shugenja with Armor of Osano-Wo strapped on cannot be targetted by Black Scroll effects. Let's say this same (non-shadowlands) Shugenja actually has a Black Scroll attached. Since Gold Targeting Rules, it seems that the -1 Chi token gathered when said Shugenja unbows is now an effect targetting the Shugenja, right ? (it doesn't specify it doesn't target, it doesn't apply to its own card, and doesn't affect a whole group of cards) So if I'm reading this right, a Shugenja wearing Black Scrolls & the Armor is immune to the corruption tokens ?
That is correct.
So I guess the same would go for Kuni Utagu? If he had a black scroll he wouldn't get the Corruption tokens?
A: Right. He wouldn't. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 October 2002", 16 Oct 2002 - Q: A Shugenja with Armor of Osano-Wo strapped on cannot be targetted by Black Scroll effects. A: That is correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 14 October 2002", 15 Oct 2002 - Q: Just as a curiosity point, will Enlightenment and Armor of Osano-Wo be inserted into future expansion starter decks as fixed cards in Broken Blades or later?
A: It's highly unlikely, as 1) they are already in the environment, and 2) they make rather poor Sealed Deck cards. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 April 2002", 27 Apr 2002
