Rules Q&A
- Q: Greetings,
Please, I would like a rules-guy answer for this question:
From the AR:
Kitsuki Kaagi a.. The challenge happens before any consequences of refusing the duel. E.g., if a Personality refuses Iaijutsu Challenge, Kaagi's duel starts before he or she can commit seppuku. [February 1999]
What is the reason for this?
a) Text on Kaagi. b) Especial rulin for him. c) Somebody forgets change this ruling after Iweko-seppuku rulings.
A: C. You can tell by the date. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 23 Feb. 2004", 24 Feb 2004 - Q: Is this ruling still valid?
Errata/Rulings for Kitsuki Kaagi The challenge happens before any consequences of refusing the duel. E.g., if a Personality refuses Iaijutsu Challenge, Kaagi's duel starts before he or she can commit seppuku. [February 1999]
I believe because of the way committing seppku is written it is now no longer valid, because it is a trait and not a reaction.
A: Seppuku wasn't a Reaction when that ruling was made, either. Should still be right.
Zen Faulkes! * Crab Clan Scholar * Unaligned Deputy Rules Guy Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 December 2003", 17 Dec 2003 - Q: If an opponent refuses the challenge created by my Rage, would I search for and play a Battle action before Kitsuki Kaagi (or Iweko) would bow to challenge that personality to an unrefusable duel?
Rage tells you to search "if" the challenge is refused. Iweko's Reaction is used "after" the refusal. You would search for and play a Battle action first. [card text]
This sounds like a contradiction...
You're right. Looks like I ruled incorrectly. Zen, could you fix this please?
A: [taps on microphone]
"Hey everybody! Forget about the dumb ruling Jeff that made!"
[brushes dust off hands] That oughtta do it...
;) Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 3 November 2003, Part 2", 4 Nov 2003 - Q: [Jade]
Can I copy a Personality that has Kitsuki Kaagi’s Journal attached?
A: No. The Egg targets.
(Replying to a player: "Corollary: Egg can’t copy one of your bowed personalities.") I assume also [Jade]? If so, correct. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 3 Oct 2026 - Q: [Jade] In relation to Kitsuki Kaagi’s Journal
A: The significance of Toturi is Drugged and similar Strategy cards having "Ninja" is for their interactions with other cards, such as The Longest Night making them un-negatable, or preventing you from playing "Lies Lies Lies".
Oh, that thing. That's a complicated thing, but the short, simple answer is nothing about Toturi is Drugged allows it to target the Journal Personality.
(Replying to a player: "[Jade] Same thing as Ninja Thief?") Yes, same answer. And you forget to tag this one Jade too. 😉 Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 10 Apr 2025
