Rules Q&A
- Q: Player A is playing Kitsune with at least one spirit out and one active Invocation in play.
Player B is playing some clan that can run courtiers and rhetoric.
Player A proclaims, which is promptly rhetoric'ed away.
Now my question is, does the Invocation kick in and player b gains one less honor because of it? Or is the full honor gain just redirected and not technically gained?
Rhetoric: Reaction: Before a player gains or loses Honor from an action's effects, bow your performing Courtier: Choose another player. If the Courtier's Chi is higher than or equal to the Honor gain or loss, the chosen player instead of the original player takes the gain or loss.
Invocation: Limited: Until your next turn begins, before each time a player gains Honor, reduce the gain by 1 unless he controls a Spirit.
Thanks muchly
A: There is a new window for Invocation to trigger each time the player who is about to gain the honor changes. Therefore, in the situation above the gain will be reduced by 1 (and similar to the Hotei's Contentment situation, if it bounces back and forth, it will continue to be reduced). Jon Palmer, "Invocation vs Rhetoric", 3 Jun 2013 - Q: Greetings folks,
I am currently working on a Kitsune deck. I have seen a couple that I like but I am trying to put my own spin on it. My question is, if I target an opponents personality with Chikushudo's Trickery, are they able to use them in an attack later? My thought on this is based on the Second-Battle Rule from the wiki.
Related Text Second-Battle Rule: Before a unit that was in an attacking army at any point during a battle’s resolution moves to a battlefield during the same Attack Phase, the unit’s movement does not happen.
Chikushudo's Trickery: Open: Choose one or two of your performing unbowed Nonhuman Spirit Personalities, target another player's unbowed Personality, bow this Shugenja, and destroy this card: Create a battlefield. Negate all movement to it. Assign the target to attack there; he will not be destroyed during the battle's Combat Segment. Assign the performing Spirits to defend there. Fight a battle there.
A: Note the Second Battle Rule only limits movement during the same Attack Phase.
Chikushudo's Trickery only creates a battlefield, not an Attack Phase. Even if Trickery created a separate Attack Phase, it would still be different from the "main" Attack Phase, and the targeted Personalities would still be able to move in to battlefields there. Ben Higgins, "Chikushudo's Trickery and Attacking", 18 Mar 2012 - Q: question with the stronghold Kyuden kitsune. It says fox and fox clan. Kitsune is literally fox in japanese. It seems at some point they might have stopped translating it to english, can someone confirm if kitsune applied as fox for the stronghold?
A: No. "Kitsune" Family Name or keyword is not automatically equivalent to "Fox" or "Fox Clan". Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 22 Jan 2025 - Q: I have a question! The new Naga, Anahita, has a response to give you gold when an action recruits a nonhuman. The way the Kitsune cards are now worded, they use a response to create and recruit their spirit tokens. As you cannot do a response to a response, do these cards not interact? Or does the response on Kitsune personalities add on to the action in question so you could get the gold?
A: the Response is the action which Recruits the Spirit, so you are correct that it cannot be Responded to more commonly you would use it when Recruiting a Naga Personality as a Dynasty action Jeff Williamson, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 2 Apr 2024
