- After you reveal cards in your Provinces at the start of your turn, if this Event is face-up in one of them, target a Personality. Shuffle all cards in his unit back into their owner's decks. All Personalities with the target's title in and out of play, including alternate titles of Experienced versions, have their Gold Cost reduced to 0 until the game ends. Such Personalities being brought into play may not be Proclaimed.

Rules Q&A
- Q: Check Kolat Duplicate: "Honor is not gained when these personalities enter play." You gain nothing and he is not rehonoured. However, if he's entering play dishonoured for some other reason, for example, The Company You Keep, he will be rehonoured, I think.
A: A Personality who enters play dishonored still produces a 0-point gain if paid for in full, and would not be restored to honorable status. Jeff Alexander, "post for 4 February 2003", 5 Feb 2003 - Q: If I play Kolat Master on one of my opponents' Daidoji Rekai, and his Kolat Duplicate resolves, and he selects Rekai, would she go into my deck and be free, or his?
A: His, since he's Rekai's owner. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 November 2001", 27 Nov 2001 - Q: I attach some Goblin Sneaks to a personality. That personality is killed. I use the Sneaks' trait to reattach them to another personality. The second personality is revealed as a Kolat Duplicate and the Sneaks are shuffled back into my fate deck. I draw the Sneaks. I discard them because I have too many cards in hand.
Can I now reattach them from my discard pile, since cards in L5R 'remember' what has happened to them? Or does only the way they last got into my discard pile count?
A: No, they remember that at some point this game they were destroyed. You would probably want to mark the reshuffled/destroyed Goblin Sneaks in some manner so that you'll remember which of the ones in your deck it is that's been destroyed this game. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 22nd, Part Two", 22 Aug 2001 - Q: How about Kolat Duplicate?
A: Still no. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 6-9 July 2001", 19 Jul 2001 - Q: I need some help with Gold Edition new rules of targetting:
In the rules only reffers to actions, what about other cards or effects? (like Kolat Duplicate).
A: The new definition of "targeted" applies to them too. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 6-9 July 2001", 19 Jul 2001 - Q: This event states that the personality targeted is shuffled back into the deck and there gold cost is reduced to 0. No honor is gained from bringing these personalities into play. Do you still have to meet the honor requirement of a personality who was targeted by this event?
A: There are no changes besides the 0 gold cost and lack of honor gain. You still have to meet minimum honor. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 15-16 February 2001", 19 Feb 2001 - Q: Target a personality in play. All cards in the Personality's unit are shuffled back into their owner's decks. All versions of that Personality have their Gold cost reduced to 0 for the rest of the game. Honor is not gained when these personalities enter play.
A: Ninjutsu: Face down Ninjutsu Personalities do not have titles. Face down Ninjutsu Personalities are not considered copies of the same card. So, when you target a face-down Ninjutsu Personality with Kolat Duplicate, you're targeting a card with no title and no copies, so there are no other "versions of that Personality"; when the target Personality is shuffled back into the deck it "forgets" that it was the one targeted by Kolat Duplicate.
Thus, if Kolat Duplicate targets a face-down Ninjutsu Personality, it creates no ongoing effects. Alex Jones, "Legacy: Ninjutsu + Kolat Duplicate", 17 Mar 2008 - Q: [Jade] if you cast The Phoenix is Reborn after Kolat Duplicate hits a personality, does that mean the next time said personality comes back into the dynasty reveal, it’s no longer zero cost?
A: Yes. None of the affected cards are zero cost or unable to be Proclaimed any longer.
Looking at the current Oracle wording of, and Archived Rulings pertaining to, TPiR, that card is... pretty messed up, unfortunately. It is not currently worded how it's supposed to work, and its contemporary rulings also contradict how effects are currently defined, so straightening all that out could be kind of messy.
But my ruling about its interaction with Kolat Duplicate is correct. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 3 May 2026
