Rulings
- If he copies Kakita Atoshi's ability, the targeted Personality straightens next turn because Konetsu no longer has the action. [JA, email, 28 April 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 110
Rules Q&A
- Q: and if i have KOnetsu, can i target the personality with his abbility if i played before konishiko's, and how many times?
A: Konetsu can copy the ability from Konishiko. The ability would then read, "Political Limited: Target a dishonored Personality. That Personality's controller loses 7 Honor. No more copies of Konetsu may target that Personality until he is restored to honor and dishonored again. Bow Konetsu."
So, again, once per GAME, unless the duration expires first (restored and dishonored again).
So, you could, theoretically, use each of the following cards to cause a 7-point Honor loss on a single dishonored personality once per game until the duration expires: Shame, Konishiko-shame, and Konetsu-shame a given personality. Martin Lund, "Rules for 24 January 2005", 31 Jan 2005 - Q: Jeff,
When you use Konishiko's Reaction to gain the ability of a Political Action on a card, do the once-per-turn restriction and bowing effect become part of the copied ability itself, or are they separate on-going effects.
A: <SNIP> Martin Lund, "Rules for 18 January 2005", 21 Jan 2005 - Q: When Konishiko gains an action from a Political action card, is the action still Political when cloned by Konishiko?
A: Yes, if Political is part of the Action: "Political Open:" "Political Limited" etc. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 January 2005", 18 Jan 2005 - Q: 2. Is Konetsu limited to an once-per-turn use of the action?
A: That goes hand-in-hand with the first issue. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 January 2005", 18 Jan 2005 - Q: 3. Does Konetsu forget his use of a restricted action like Shame at the end of turn?
A: The permanent effect of "No more copies of [this card] may target that Personality until he is restored to honor and dishonored again," is not forgotten after Konetsu's copying of the ability expires, no. Martin Lund, "Rules for 13 January 2005", 18 Jan 2005 - Q: I have a Konetsu (4 chi) with a Diplomatic Apprentice (0 chi) attached. A 4 point honor gain happens. Can I Play Rhetoric, announce that I'm using Konetsu to redirect the gain to myself but instead bow the Diplomatic Apprentice, or would I not be able to because the Apprentice has a 0 chi?
A: Yes. Diplomatic Apprentice is not performing the action, it's simply taking the place of one part of the cost. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 2 December 2003, Part 2", 3 Dec 2003 - Q: Crane player bob has Konetsu and Kakita Nakazo in play. Konetsu copies Nakazo's ability, then Nakazo issues a challenge which is refused. Bob tries to gain 6 honor after using both reactions?
A: Not allowed (Gold Edition rulebook, pg. 38). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 17 September 2003, Part 2", 18 Sep 2003 - Q: Building from this: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=97763#p1290838
Does this mean that, in subsequent turns, Konetsu may choose to remain bowed because he used the ability when he had it, even though he no longer has the ability that allows him to choose to remain bowed?
A: Correct, because the "may remain bowed" is part of the action.
Hypothetically, if Konetsu instead had a trait that said he may remain bowed, and the action said "while he remains bowed XXX" but did not explicitly allow him to remain bowed, this would not work. But as the cards are worded it works fine. Jon Palmer, "Temporary Ability Copying", 5 May 2012 - Q: In relation to question 1, can Konetsu copy the ability of Doji Konishiko (after he reacted, of course)?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Doji Konishiko and Gozoku Pawn", 7 Mar 2005
