Rules Q&A
- Q: I have six different questions.
A. Opposing for actions:
My opponent attack my last Province with Kuon. I defend with Koto. I have a bowed Isawa Jun with an attached unbowed Follower at home.
Question A: Can I play Peasant Vengeance to Kuon, bowing Jun’s Follower?
1. Yes. You have presence, meet relevance, cost could be paid, and Koto opposes Kuon, making Kuon “an opposing Infantry Personality with no Followers or Items”
2. No. The Follower performing the Peasant Vengeance must be at the current battle and opposing Kuon
A: The answer is "2." Peasant Vengeance is an Action card (can't be in any army) and its last given reference for "opposing" was "one of your Followers." Ergo, the target must be opposing the Follower you bowed to pay the cost. Martin Lund, "Rules for 20 January 2005", 24 Jan 2005 - Q: Can someone please help me out in fiding those sections?
Normally, if an action card is canceled by another player's card effect, the action card does not go back into your hand. For instance, if I play a Kolat Assassin on your bowed Koto and you drop a Balance in Nothingness, I don't get the Kolat Assassin back to play again later.
A: [MARTY] Yes. That's covered on page 72 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook under Canceling Actions and Negating Effects. Martin Lund, "Rules for 10 December 2004", 13 Dec 2004 - Q: Matsu's Rage Tactical Battle : Target a Personality in his controller's home. Move him into the current defending army. If he moved, straighten his unit. Kaneka
Tactical Battle: Bow an opposing unit. That unit's controller may instead bow at least two other units whose combined total Force exceeds Kaneka's Chi.
a.. If a player chooses to bow two units when his second ability is used, the other units to be bowed instead must be in the same army as the targeted unit. [Erratum, JA, 11 May 2004]
And here is the combo : I attack, say, with kaneka. Kaneka is my Attacking army. I have a Koto at home.
The defender is a military deck (if he won't, it would be no fun) and assigns a lot of personality to defend.
I won't focus on the defender's actions.
My first action : I use Kaneka to perform a Matsu's Rage on my own Koto, so that he moves to the opposing army.
A: Okay. Koto won't move though. Units you control can't enter an army unless you are its leader or a confirmed ally of its leader. And that pretty much ruins the rest of your clever combo. Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 November 2004", 5 Nov 2004 - Q: Ok, this question came up and no one can give me a clear answer locally. In the open environment, is Toku Unique? Can I play with 2 Toku's and 1 Koto in my Open deck?
A: Yes, you may. You don't have more than 3 copies of cards that count for the Koto / Toku deck limit. You don't have more than 1 unique copy of Koto / Toku nonexp. either. You're fine. Martin Lund, "Rules for 4 September 2004", 8 Sep 2004 - Q: [W]hy wasn't Koto given the 'Monkey Clan' trait?
A: At a guess, because minor clan traits have confused players in the past.
