Rules Q&A
- Q: Can you use entering play effects with the "return to play" abilities of Kuni Yori 3 or Dark Sanctuary?
A: Yes.
Zen Faulkes! * Crab Clan Scholar * Unaligned Rules Deputy L5R Rules Archive: http://www.planet.net.au/~zfaulkes/rulings.html Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 11 July 2001", 12 Jul 2001 - Q: 2. Does the use of Kuni Yori ex3 and similar cards ignore honor requirements?
A: Yes for Kuni Yori Exp3. In general, to be honest, every single card seems to have been ruled based on intent, and I'm considering how best to rectify this.
Does anyone who actually plays the game have any suggestions? Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for 23 March 2001", 29 Mar 2001 - Q: Whn you take control of an opponent's personality (Say, via Kuni Yori Ex3), and said personality dies, does it go to your discard pile (card's controller) or your opponent's (card's owner)?
A: It goes to the current controller's discard pile. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for January 31st", 31 Jan 2001 - Q: also....if kitsu osen is egged, can you use his reaction to kill another personality?
No. The Egg doesn't trigger entering play effects.
Uh... why wouldn't it? It sure seems to count for your one person entering play on Yodin and if you Kuni Yori Osen he gets to do it again since he is entering play. That seems to indicate rather strongly that you should be able to use the Egg to get a second use of Osen's assassination ability.
A: For one, it doesn't trigger entering play effects because the Archive says it doesn't. ;)
For the explanation behind that ruling, you'd probably want to ask Zen. He's the recognized authority on all things Egg-like, and I could only give you my best guess.
My best guess, though, is that the action card enters play, and *then* becomes a copy of the target personality. It's never a personality entering play, but by the end of the actions resolution, you have brought a personality into play, counting for Yodin Sensei's clause.
