Rulings
- If its ability is copied, the copying cards need to be assigned to a losing battle to be used. [Rulebook] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 111
- Cannot produce a tie game since its ability is used after your Provinces are destroyed. Your opponent will still win a Military Victory even if you destroy his last Province as well, because he destroyed yours first. [FAQ 3.3] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 111
- Its ability can be copied by cards such as the Ninja Shapeshifter and Mask of the Oni. These cards need to be assigned to a losing battle as well, though, since copied abilities which refer to their own cards change to reflect the copying cards instead. [rulebook] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 38
- Erratum: has the Nonhuman trait. Text Change & Errata List, February 15, 2000, p. 17
- Q: What about Kusatte Iru? I can use it even if my last Province gets destroyed. This will tie the game if my opponent has only one Province too. A: Actually, it won't. Remember, Reactions don't retroactively counter anything unless they say so. Because of Iru's wording, you destroyed your opponent's last Province after he destroyed yours. He was the last player in the game, thereby achieving a Military Victory. Iru doesn't change that. The Imperial Herald, Vol. 2, No. 1 (Issue 5), p. 15
- Anvil of Despair: Elemental Vortex, Kusatte Iru: These cards are Nonhuman. The Imperial Herald, Vol. 2, No. 1 (Issue 5), p. 16
Rules Q&A
- Q: 1. Say the opposing player and I have one province remaining. I also have a Kusatte Iru in play. He attacks me and takes my province. I use Kusatte Iru's ability. For the purpose of Open tournament results, who won?
A: "Cannot produce a tie game since its ability is used after your Provinces are destroyed. Your opponent will still win a Military Victory even if you destroy his last Province as well, because he destroyed yours first. [FAQ 3.3]" (Accumulated Rulings, "Kusatte Iru") Martin Lund, "Rules for 4 June 2004", 6 Jun 2004 - Q: Can you use One Life, One Action on an action card played as a focus that has an effect on the duel?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 30-31 December 2002", 31 Dec 2002 - Q: Is it just me, or am I one of the few people asking questions about old-school cards? Hm.
1) If Kusatte Iru uses his Reaction as a Province is destroyed, destroying a Province, is it destroying a Province in battle -- as it, well, literally is?
A: Nope. According to my spoiler, its Reaction is used after the Resolution Segment. That makes it after the battle is over. Question 1a) is moot. Jeff Alexander, "replies to July 3-5", 17 Jul 2001 - Q: If Kusatte Iru uses his Reaction as a Province is destroyed, destroying a Province, is it destroying a Province in battle? Thus, does it satisify the requirement of The Fallen Lion Fortress for giving a Shadowlands player an additional Province?
A: Rules Archive, General Rules, Battle: "Reactions that require destroying an army or Province can be played if the destruction was caused by a card effect during the resolution segment. [JA, 14 February 2001]"
But Iru's Reaction occurs *after* the Resolution segment. No. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 14 July 2001", 15 Jul 2001
