Rulings
- The destruction of a Holding is worded as an effect of coming into play, not a cost. If you control no Holdings, she can still enter play. [l5rinfo, 2/2/2000] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 2
- May target and destroy a bowed Holding. "You may not target your own bowed Personalities with actions", but Holdings are not Personalities and this isn't an action. [Ibid.] Accumulated Rulings, February 8, 2000, p. 2
Rules Q&A
- Q: Similarly, can Kyoso no Oni exp destroy bowed personalities to gain her bonus?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 April 2003", 29 Apr 2003 - Q: Card text reads Unaligned Oni Sovereign Nonhuman Experienced Unique Shadowlands Lose 5 Honor. Kyoso no Oni cannot attach Followers or Items. Open: Destroy one of your Personalities to give Kyoso no Oni +2F/+2C.
Can you destroy bowed personalitys in a resolved battle to give Kyoso the bonus in the current battle?
A: No, because you can't target your own bowed Personalities with your actions. Jeff Alexander, "post for 11 October 2002", 12 Oct 2002 - Q: Greetings,
Our local Taint Boy (tm) was playing with a dishonored Kyoso no Oni and successfully attacked another player, wiping out the army. His question was, even if he cannot gain or lose honor, would his personality be rehonored?
A: It would not. From the rulebook, his Family Honor needs to increase to restore the Personality. If it's locked at -19, he can't restore Personalities to honorable by doing something that would gain a normal player Honor. (That's also why 0-point Honor gains don't re-honor Personalities.) Jeff Alexander, "post for 22 March 2002", 23 Mar 2002 - Q: This came up in a multiplayer game the other night.
Player A attacks player B, C & D ally with A, E&F ally with B.
G has a Doji Satsume on the board unbowed.
At province 1, there's a Kyoso No Oni attacking, controlled by Player A .
If G bows Satsume during the battle, to use his open action to target Kyoso No Oni, does this satisfy the Rule of Relevance?
A: Yes. However, it does not satisfy the Rule of Relevance, so it's still not legal. Both conditions have to be met. Jeff Alexander, "Rulings for late February 2001", 10 Mar 2001 - Q: Kyoso no Oni Exp 3
Honor loss is a trait. See: http://rules.l5r.com/Card_features#Traits
http://rules.l5r.com/Effects#Order_of_effects: "Effects occur in the order they are written."
Kyoso no Oni enters play, since both honor loss and her destroy effect are both traits, I can opt to destroy her before losing the honor. Correct?
A: Yes, although effects occur in order, both the honor loss and destruction trait are triggered to the same occurrence; the honor loss trait is implicitly "after entering play" just like the destruction trait. Thus, the traits' effects occur in an order chosen by the active player. Roger Giner-Sorolla, "Kyoso no Oni Revisited", 20 May 2008 - Q: Ie I destroy her by her own trait and as a result do not lose honor. Correct?
A: No. Roger Giner-Sorolla, "Kyoso no Oni Revisited", 20 May 2008
