- Erratum: Reads, "Kyuden Doji 6PS 4GP 6FH Political Reaction: When one of your Personalities enters a duel, target and bow one of your Crane Clan Samurai to have that Samurai enter the duel instead. Political Limited: Bow Kyuden Doji to permanently give Courtier to one of your Crane Clan Personalities." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 148
- If its ability used during battle, the replacing samurai can be in any location. [JA, 21 November 2002] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 148
- Q: If I'm playing with Kyuden Doji, and it's bowed, can I still bow my samurai to enter a duel instead of one of my other Personalities? A: No. As with cards, actions on bowed Strongholds cannot be used, even when they don't require bowing the Stronghold as a cost, unless the action's effects include straightening the Stronghold. Kyuden Doji is worded in such a way that its Reaction is an ability of the Stronghold itself, not of your Personalities. When it's bowed, you can't use its Reaction. Rules Q&A
- Q: Just thought I'd point out that if you're playing out of Kyuden Doji, you could make Chiyeko a courtier, so then it would act like a second, better Brutal Confrontation.
Does this work?
A: Yes, assuming Chieko is targeting herself to be the challenger. Martin Lund, "Rules for 12 December 2004", 15 Dec 2004 - Q: Can I switch another personality to duel with Kyuden Doji if either of the original participants has 'Toshimoko no Shiryo'?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 27 August 2003", 28 Aug 2003 - Q: Say you are playing Kyuden Doji and Test of the Emerald Champion comes up. What happens?
A: From the Archive (http://www.legendofthefiverings.com/rulings/#Event_cards): "Your challenger needs to "survive" all the challenges to gain the extra Province. Any method of achieving this will successfully complete the Test, including abandoning a duel without resolution, prevent the death of a Personality (Feign Death does not do this), or allow one Personality to duel in another's place." Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 7 July 2003", 8 Jul 2003 - Q: Now I am playing with Kyuden Doji, I Iajutsu Challenge with Okakura (personal honor =2), my oponent accepts. As he has the first go on reactions, he plays Kakita Technique with a 3 ersonal honor personality, I proceed to react and switch Okakura with Kurohito exp (4 personal honor). Who gets to focus first?
A: Your opponent. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 May 2003", 2 May 2003 - Q: A player asked me what would be the result of the following...
Bob is running Kyuden Doji. He attaches Armor of Shadows to Crane Bobby. He then plays For The Empire on Bobby and Fred's samurai. As a reaction, Bob bows non-shadowlands samurai Bobbi to take Bobby's place. Bobbi wins (so Fred's samurai dies). So...
a) Bobby gains +1/+1 permanently. OR b) Bobbi gains +1 personal honor and Bob gets 3 honor. OR c) No other benefit is gained. OR d) Leon's not leaving so we're going to create a new list and not tell him where it is.
A: c. Only if the winner of the duel is one of the Personalities originally targeted are the appropriate rewards gained.
I'm not impressed, Leon. As has been pointed out, this was asked and answered a month ago. Or are you testing to see if you can get a different answer? Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 April 2003", 9 Apr 2003 - Q: I´m playing Kyuden Doji, I´m in an attack I play Come one at a Time, when I replace the personality that played come one at a time in the battle with a Samurai, does this personality enter the battle? (With any other battle duel?)
A: Replacing one Personality in a duel with another does not cause them to change locations. Period. Jeff Alexander, "post for 25 March 2003", 26 Mar 2003 - Q: Revealing the Ancient Wisdom
Unique Limited: One of your Personalities with Double Chi issues an unrefusable challenge to another Personality. Your Personality does not gain the benefit for Double Chi during the duel.
If I start a duel using this and switch it to another Double Chi peep using Kyuden Doji, would that new peep get the use of double chi if they had it?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 14 March 2003", 15 Mar 2003 - Q: Same situation, but now the player with Steel Throne is using Kyuden Doji, he uses the steel throne and the replaces his personality with another dueler. This time Kwanchai does not replace the personality.
Is the political action negated?
A: Yes (assuming the Throne's player wins the duel). Jeff Alexander, "post for 12 March 2003", 13 Mar 2003 - Q: Hi there, just a quick question for Jeff.
I am playing out of Kyuden Doji and I have a Voitagi and another samurai in play. I use For the Empire to initiate a duel between my Voitagi and my opponents samurai.
If I replace Voitagi with my non-shadowlands samurai, which of the winning benefits go I gain??
a) My non-shadowlands samurai won the duel therefore I gain 3 honor and +1 ph.
or b) Voitagi initiated the duel therefore I get +1f +1c.
A: c) Neither the Shadowlands Personality nor the Samurai originally targeted won the duel, so there is no reward. The loser still dies. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 March 2003", 8 Mar 2003 - Q: I have a question concerning Kyuden Doji. Can you use it's ability to easily play Ring of Fire ?
For exampel, You issue a challenge with a low chi guy, then replace him and win the duel. I couldn't find anything in the archives.
A: That's 'cuz it's not there yet. ;)
The answer is no. Ring of Fire is playable when one of your personalities wins a duel against a personality who had a higher Chi before the duel. Despite the fact that your representative in the duel has changed, his Chi as measured against the Chi of his opponent probably hasn't. Vaughn Derderian, "Rulings for January 5th", 6 Jan 2003
