Rulings
- Erratum: Reads, "Kyuden Gotei 7PS 4GP 3FH Kyuden Gotei counts as a Port card. Once per battle, as a Battle action, you may bow one of your Naval cards in the current battle to take two consecutive Battle actions." [MRP, Diamond Edition, 27 October 2003] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 149
Rules Q&A
- Q: Kyuden Gotei reads: "Kyuden Gotei counts as a Port card." Is this stronghold now actually a card in play and may be targeted as one? Or does it only count for the existence of port cards?
A: Jeff Alexander wrote on Mon, 15 Sep 2003, in Re: [L5R-CCG] Kyuden Gotei: "Kyuden Gotei does not count as a card. It only counts as a Port for purposes of things that look for Port cards."
That should probably go under the MRP of Kyuden Gotei in its entry on the Accumulated Rulings Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 July 2004", 4 Jul 2004 - Q: Something has just occured to me with the handful of items available now (or will be) that attach during battle and do blah.
If a player using Kyuden Gotei bows a naval Card for two consecutive Battle actions, if the first is to attach, say the Blade of Thorns, does the subsequent Fear affect that follows mean that the player has made his two battle actions they bowed a Naval card for?
A: Blade of Thorns says to gain an additional Battle action [card text]. It really would be an extra action. It would not overlap the second one from Kyuden Gotei. Jeff Alexander, "rules for 24 March 2004", 26 Mar 2004 - Q: can Ningyo unbow Kyuden Gotei or Kyuden Yoritomo?
A: No (Gold rulebook, pg. 33). Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 24 October 2003", 24 Oct 2003 - Q: Why is House of the Red Lotus a geisha house?
A: So that cards made in the future can key off it. It's all about lead time in publishing. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 15 September 2003, Part 2", 15 Sep 2003 - Q: If Kyuden Gotei counts as a port card, s it's gold production modified by things that modify the gold production of ports, like black market?
A: Left for Jeff Alexander. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 15 September 2003, Part 2", 15 Sep 2003 - Q: counting as a card, can Kyuden Gotei be destroyed with Isawa Last Wish?
A: Left for Jeff Alexander. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 14 September 2003", 15 Sep 2003 - Q: Two rules questions that have been bugging me for a while:
1. Is "The Deathless" a Naval card? It has Naval printed specifically in boldface in its traits area, thus it follows the "rulebook definition." (Page 33, An Oni's Fury Rulebook, "Abilities and Traits") However, a judge ruled against me at the Region 12 Kotei, stating that it could not be bowed for two actions via Kyuden Gotei as it "specifically handed out the Naval trait, but did not have it itself." (Memory's fuzzy, was a week or two ago.) Have since played other opponents that have argued for and against....possible to get a final ruling here?
A: Well, anything's possible. The Deathless has a trait that has the word Naval in it, and it's even in boldface. However, the precedent is that a Keyword, even a boldface one, that is part of a sentence trait, doesn't count for giving that trait. This goes way back, to when The Nameless One came out and people wondered whether or not he had the Shadowlands trait.
So, no. The Deathless is not Naval. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for June 11th - Part Two!", 12 Jun 2003 - Q: I just had this come up in a game I played and I wanted to be sure I played it correctly.
1. I am playing Mantis with Kyuden Gotei. I have Isawa Nodotai in play and he is not in the current battle. Can I use his reaction for one of my archers that is in battle?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "post for 2 June 2003", 3 Jun 2003
