Rulings
- If a Wind is removed, and the same Wind by title is brought into play from outside the game on a later turn, it is considered a new copy of the card, unaffected by anything that previously affected the earlier Wind with the same title. [ML, web, 15 June 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 149
- Favor tokens on the stronghold are not interchangeable with Favor tokens generated by other cards. [JA, web, 13 September 2005] Rules Archive, August 18, 2007, p. 149
Rules Q&A
- Q: After Kachiko's Kiss resolves for the first time, can the Kyuden Otomo player still add Favour tokens to the Stronghold?
A: Rules Archive, Imperial Favor: "Removal of the Imperial Favor from the game does not: Prevent lobbying to create other effects (e.g., Kyuden Otomo)." Zen Faulkes, "Kachiko's Kiss vs Kyuden Otomo", 8 May 2006 - Q: Does a Kyuden Otomo player have the favor while all he has are favor tokens(?)
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Kyuden Otomo and Command of the Kami", 11 Oct 2005 - Q: Does a Kyuden Otomo player has to announce if he's taking the REAL favor or if he's taking a token?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Kyuden Otomo and Command of the Kami", 11 Oct 2005 - Q: Question 2;
If Kachiko's Kiss has resolved can I use Kyuden Otomo to gain access to the favour again?
A: Well, "The Imperial Favor" does NOT equal "a Wind card". Changing your wind will not affect Kachiko's Kiss at all. Chris Fuchs, "Kyuden Otomo and Kachiko's Kiss Questions", 24 Sep 2005 - Q: Can I remove Favor tokens from Kyuden Otomo to pay for the Limited action of Writ of Justice?
Writ of Justice: Will only attach to a Courtier. When it enters play, put Favor tokens on Writ of Justice equal to the Courtier's Personal Honor. Political Limited: Bow this Personality and remove three Favor tokens to bow a Dishonored Personality. Political Limited: Bow this Personality and remove six Favor tokens to destroy a Dishonored Personality.
Kyuden Otomo: You may remove a Favor token from your Stronghold to pay the cost of discarding the Imperial Favor. You may lobby to add a Favor token to your Stronghold.
Political Open: Once per turn: Name a legal Wind you dont control. Remove from the game a Wind you control. Bring the named Wind into play from outside the game.
A: No. You cannot remove Favor tokens from other Writs of Justice, either. Jeff Alexander, "Kyuden Otomo and Writ of Justice", 13 Sep 2005 - Q: Can you use the send someone home ability of the imperial favor more than once using a home like kyuden otomo? Or can any ability like that only be used once.
I'm almost certain you can't due to it not having repeatable.
A: Unless the ability specifically says "any number of times per turn" in its text, it is limited to once per turn. Brook Cunningham, "Oracle of the Void #rules", 11 Jun 2025 - Q: Kyuden otomo
A: Well, in the case of Kyuden Otomo, if the taking the Favor effect is substituted with the gaining a token effect, then the Lobby action didn't fail, even if you already had the Favor. I can't think offhand, and I'm failing to find via search, what Shiwan may be referring to as punishments for Lobbying/gaining the Favor failing.
