Rules Q&A
- Q: Scandalous Rumors- Battle:Bow your performing courtier at any location:The attacker may target any of his Personalities at the current battlefield and move them home. He loses 1 honor for each of his personalities there that this did not move, then dishonors them.
Legion of Pain-Actions performed by Personalities with a Gold Cost of 7 or lower may not target this personality.
In a recent game my friend played Scandalous Rumors on my guy who had Legion of Pain attached. He fulfilled requirements with a low cost courtier, and I couldn't choose to send my guy home because the action cannot target him (even though I choose the target) due to Legion of Pain. Therefore, I lose 1 honor and get dishonored as result of the effects.
Is this right? Seems like Legion of Pain is what stooged me rather than save me :/
A: That is correct.
In the above case, the Legion's usually beneficial trait is detrimental to you. Ben Higgins, "Scandalous Rumors and Legion of Pain", 28 Dec 2012 - Q: In regards to a question and answer already given........
Question by p1u70 :If something targets an attachment, is it considered to be targeting the personality? Therefor negation/delay/transfer might interact with it?
Answer by MacBeth2001: No. If something targets the "unit", specifically using that term, it is also considered to target the Personality. But targeting individual cards in the unit do not implicitly target the Personality. Your attachments are on their own.
My follow up: If something specifically says a personality may not be targeted, does this prevent the unit from being targeted?
Example, a personality has a Legion of Pain attached, so personalities with a gold cost of 7 or less cannot target the personality. Could my duelist, who costs 7 or lower gold, still use Superior Opponent (Battle: Choose your performing unbowed Duelist and target an enemy unit: Bow each Follower and Personality in it with equal or lower Force than your Duelist's Chi.) and target that unit?
A: No, such a unit could not legally be targeted, per the ruling you quoted, referencing paragraph #5, here.
However, it would be helpful if you could imbed a link to previous rulings when referring to them (as requested here, under bullet point #3). Brook Cunningham, "Unit and Personality targeting.", 25 Jun 2012 - Q: Greetings!
Player A Controls a single unbowed personality with Legion of Pain attached. Player B uses Governor's court with his 4 gold courtier (or any 7 gold courtier) performing the action.
Does player B automatically gain 2 honor since player A cannot target and bow his personality due to legion of pain's restriction?
A: In this case you would gain the 2 honor, as the other player cannot choose to target the Personality. Jon Palmer, "Governor's Court and Legion of Pain", 12 Jan 2012 - Q: does bayishi Darisu reaction is performed I wonder if Legion of Pain blocks him to dishonor the owner of Legion
A: ...and thus, indeed it does! 🙂 Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 8 Oct 2025
