Rules Q&A
- Q: Just to confirm. Does Yakusho's ability count as a base Ranged Attack ability?
Tsuruchi Yakusho
Arrows Do Not Falter
My guess is not, but hilarity would ensue if Arrows do work with his ability.
A: No Second City questions, please.
However, note that a Ranged Attack ability is one that can create a Ranged Attack as one of its effects. Eg, the first ability on Arrows From the Woods is a Ranged Attack ability, but the second is not. Alex Jones, "Arrows Do Not Falter + Yakusho", 3 Sep 2011 - Q: Card Text:

Togashi Shintaro Clan Dragon Text Dragon Clan • Fire • Monk • Tattooed After Shintaro enters play: Give him three +1F Fire tokens. Battle: Destroy a Fire token on Shintaro: Ranged 3 Attack.
Is Togashi Shintaros ability considered a base ability for purposes of the Focus effect of Arrows do Not Falter?
What if he no longer has any fire tokens?
A: Some variation of this question has been asked enough now that it has been added to the FAQ:
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_FAQ#What_Ranged ... _affect.3F Zen Faulkes, "Togashi Shintaro and Arrows do Not Falter", 23 Nov 2010 - Q: If I use Impromptu Duel & my opponent has focused an Arrows Do Not Falter whose focus effect would kill my challenging personality before the duel ends, would the only surviving person be considered the winner of the duel and gain 2 honor?
A: No.
Challenges and Duels: If a Personality involved in a challenge or duel leaves play during it, the challenge or duel ends immediately without resolution. In particular, Focus Effects that have not yet resolved at that point do not resolve at all. Alex Jones, "arrows do not falter and Impromptu Duel", 5 Jun 2010 - Q: Will Shinjo Yamauchi's ability trigger the focus effect on Arrows Do Not Falter?

Shinjo Yamauchi Battle: Target your unbowed Personality or Follower, and bow it unless you are a defending player: Ranged Attack with strength equal to its Force.
A: Abilities that create Ranged Attacks of various strength are still Ranged Attack abilities.
You may activate the Focus Effect of Arrows do not Falter if you focus it in a duel where Shinjo Yamauchi is the challenged personality.
