Rules Q&A
- Q: Yet another rules quandry, and again, I begin with the relevant card texts:
Asaku Yuya: <trait>Once per turn, Yuya may bow a spell instead of herself as a cost of casting that spell. (A spell cannot be cast while it is bowed)
Light a Candle: <Limited>Bow this shugenja, who may remain bowed. While this Shugenja remains bowed and in play, your Personalities gain +1C.
Now, I remember a ruling not too long ago, but couldn't find it in the archive on AEG's page. But, the gist of it is that you can bow the spell to cast it while Yuya is bowed.
A: That WAS the ruling. It has since been reversed. Both Shugenja and Spell must be unbowed or it can't be cast. Jeff Alexander, "post for 1 July 2002", 2 Jul 2002 - Q: I got to ask about this combo....
Light a Candle: "Limited: Bow this Shugenja, who may remain bowed. While this Shugenja remains bowed and in play, your Personalities gain +1C" Can Yayu bow to use Light a Candle to give everyone +1chi bonus, then bow the spell to give an additional +1chi bonus.
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 June 2002", 20 Jun 2002 - Q: hehe what do you think of Shinsei's Staff? AFAIR, it makes all focusses over 3 become 3.
BTW, Jeff, 2 questions:
1) Asaku Yuya and Light a Candle. Can I bow the spell an keep it bowed?
A: No. In fact, if Yuya is unbowed and you bow the Spell instead of Yuya, the effect ends immediately. Jeff Alexander, "post for 3 April 2002", 4 Apr 2002
