Rules Q&A
- Q: If I target a Personality with Daigotsu, reducing that cards Force to zero, do weapon and items attached give him/her bonuses? Example: Hida Kuon (Exp. 2) with a plus two Force Weapon and one Light Infantry, after being effected with the Wind is he zero Force with a two Force follower or does he still get the two Force from the weapon and the two Force from the follower?
A: Kuon's force would be zero, but the force of his Unit would be 2. When Daigotsu is used, the target's force is reduced to zero. This effectively removes all bonuses the Personality had received from previous effects. It does not, however, reduce the force of his Unit to zero, and since most followers add to the force of the Unit rather than directly to the Personality, Daigotsu won't affect their force contribution. Vaughn Derderian, "Post for June 23rd, 2003", 23 Jun 2003 - Q: An opposing player has 1 shadowlands holding and a non-shadowlands peep. It is his turn, he bows the shadowlands holding to attach a light infantry to the peep. I use CP to destroy the holding and the peep. What happens to the Light Infantry? Does he keep it in his hand?Or now that there is no legal peep to attach it to is it discarded?
A: It is discarded. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 March 2003", 20 Mar 2003 - Q: In reference to: http://www.alderac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=79866#p1045640
Let's say I ranged attack a Light Infantry, destroying it.
My opponent has Yoritomo Naizen (xp 3), who has this ability: Battle: Target a Follower in your hand or discard pile. Attach it to your target Personality, paying 3 less Gold. You may take an additional Battle action.
Can they Naizen the Light Infantry back?
Would it be different if they were using Akodo Hiroshi? Battle: Attach your target discarded Follower to a target Personality in Hiroshi's army.
A: Yes, both Naizen and Hiroshi's abilities could retrieve the Light Infantry in your example.
As was said in your link, only Personalities in the discard pile are distinguished between "destroyed" or "discarded". For any other card type, whether it ended up in the discard by being destroyed or not isn't tracked.
I understand your wanting clarification, as Naizen and Hiroshi are worded slightly differently ("in the discard pile" verus "discarded"), but since they are referencing a non-Personality card type, they are essentially saying the same thing. Brook Cunningham, "Do "dead" followers go in the discard pile sideways?", 11 Nov 2009
