- Q: What is "a normal Battle or Open action"? I need to know for Lotus at Dusk. And how many actions can I take after playing it? Two or three? A: Your normal action is the one you get from your one opportunity to take an action or pass. Nothing else counts, not even the extra action you gain after playing a Formation. If you play Lotus at Dusk as your normal action, you may take two more actions after it -- one from its text, and one for the inherent extra action that playing a Formation grants. If you play it some other way, you only get one. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, April 26, 2004, p. 14
Rules Q&A
- Q: Does the following sequence of play work:
I am defending in a battle with three Samurai. 1. As my first Battle action, I play Lotus at Dusk. 2. I get an extra Battle/Open action (from the rulebook) because I have played a formation. 3. I get another extra consecutive Battle/Open action from Lotus at Dusk.
A: "Q: What is "a normal Battle or Open action"? I need to know for Lotus at Dusk. And how many actions can I take after playing it? Two or three?
A: Your normal action is the one you get from your one opportunity to take an action or pass. Nothing else counts, not even the extra action you gain after playing a Formation. (L5R FAQ, http://l5r.alderac.com/ccg/faq.html) Martin Lund, "Rules for 15 September 2004", 21 Sep 2004 - Q: Say I Sneak Attack, play Lotus at Dusk, then Brutal Confrontation. Does Lotus at Dusk prevent me from using the trait on Brutal Confrontation to take a free action on Brutal Confrontation, or can I use an action on Brutal Confrontation for free and follow up with the second action with Lotus at Dusk?
A: Brutal Confrontation doesn't have any such trait. It has one ability, "Battle: All players may take the following actions for the rest of the battle. You may take one such action immediately if your army has at least two units ..."
That's all part of the Action. It is an additional Action from an Action, something that Lotus at Dusk specifically prevents.
Playing Brutal Confrontation under Lotus at Dusk can't yield you an extra Action from Brutal Confrontation. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 August 2004", 2 Sep 2004 - Q: Does the current ruling that additional actions granted by cards are considered actions themselves (see SupStrat and Lotus At Dusk) make it where the addition action granted by COaaT is considered the second action from KG? Or would it work like this:
Use KG Battle Action Play COaaT (1st KG battle action) Issue first challenge (from COaaT) Issue second challenge (2nd KG battle action)
Just wanted to make sure how it works before I put it to use.
A: It works as outlined in your example. You'd get 2 Actions from Kyuden Gotei, but then Come One At A Time would interject a new one in between the two from Kyuden Gotei. They wouldn't be "consecutive" anymore, but that's OK. Jeff got this question back with Blade of Thorns. "Extra" Actions just interject themselves in the middle of whatever order existed previously. No harm, no foul. Martin Lund, "Rules for 23 July 2004", 26 Jul 2004 - Q: How Would Honor Lesson Dojo interact with Lotus at Dusk. Honor Lesson Dojo say after both players pass and before Delayed Terrains, bow it to take one open or battle actions.
Now if I use that one actin to play Lotus at Dusk would I get 2 more actions from it or just one from the rulebook effect? or none because of the Wording on Honor Lesson Dojo?
A: If you played Lotus at Dusk off of Honor's Lesson Dojo, you'd be able to gain one Action from the Rulebook for playing a Formation, but not one from Lotus At Dusk. The Action gained from H.L.D. isn't a "normal" Action that Lotus at Dusk triggers off of. Martin Lund, "Rules for 7 May 2004", 9 May 2004 - Q: Well, it seems that is not totally exact. The Lotus can respond to the action you use to play it. So, for BoT : *Play Lotus at Dusk *Use the rulebook extra action : put the blade of thorn in play *Use the extra action granted by BoT : Fear3 *Use the Lotus at Dusk extra action *Give your opponent...
A: I just want to confirm that this is the way Lotus At Dusk + Blade of Thorns works out. Martin Lund, "Rules for 29 April 2004", 2 May 2004 - Q: Is the additional action you get after playing a formation considered gaining an action for the purposes of Lotus at Dusk
A: FAQ. Zen Faulkes, "Lotus at Dusk", 17 Mar 2005
