Rules Q&A
- Q: Is "choosing" Naomasa for Brothers in Battle considered "targeting" for Naomasa's reaction?
A: No. Targeting is explicit; the actual word "target" must appear, or it isn't targeting.
http://rules.l5r.com/CE_Glossary_T#Targeting: "The word “target” must appear as a verb or an adjective for the procedure to be considered targeting -- just “choosing” something is not targeting." Zen Faulkes, "Matsu Naomasa and Brothers in Battle", 27 May 2011 - Q: I was wondering if Matsu Naomasa could use her reaction if she would be the target of Duty. I'm not sure if there is a window for her reaction, since she'll soon to be dead.
Thank you!
Reaction: After one of your Bushido Virtue actions targets Naomasa: Gain 2 Honor.
Bushido Virtue Reaction: Before another player's card's effect destroys one of your Personalities, destroy one of your target honorable Samurai Personalities at the same location: Negate the first Personality's destruction
A: Remember the process of taking an action.
It is:
A. Announce Action B. Required targets C. Pay Costs D. Effects
Naomasa's Reaction is upon targeting, which is before she pays the cost of destruction.
You can use Naomasa's action if she is targeted by Duty. Dan Jacobson, "Matsu Naomasa and Duty", 25 Feb 2009
