Rules Q&A
- Q: In reference to: viewtopic.php?f=59&t=83580
Therefore "A Cleansing Death" would be a legal action to take after playing: Calm before Death (as previously ruled), Matsu Ushio or Akodo Nagataka's printed battle action. However "A Cleansing Death" could not be taken in reaction to Duty (negating a ranged attack by destroying a deathseeker personality for duty) nor to Akodo Senichi's reaction because they are "reactions" and not "battle actions" right?
A: It can be played in the manner you suggested, for the reasons you suggest.
A Cleansing Death can be played in reaction to an action whose costs or effects destroy one of your Deathseeker personalities. Dan Jacobson, "A cleansing death+Calm before death", 18 May 2010 - Q: If you bring Matsu Ushio into play at less cost for any reason, (say clan affiliation -2 gold cost) when triggering his effect, do you use the printed gold cost, or the cost paid?
A: Unless there is a permanent or continuous effect adjusting the gold cost of Matsu Ushio (e.g. Yoritomo Utemaro's Limited ability), Matsu Ushio's gold cost will be 7 for his action. Dan Jacobson, "Matsu Ushio and abilities related to gold cost.", 22 Apr 2010 - Q: Hi all,
Regarding these parts of the rules: In play and out of play Cards that are not in play or in a resolution, entering-play or focusing area have the following limitations: * They may not be targeted. * They are not affected by effects. Honorable and dishonorable If, during one of these effects, the rehonoring is negated or otherwise fails, the Honor is still not gained.
I have Matsu Ushio in play and dishonored and use his battle ability. Then, what's happen at the second effect's activation? 1) He's rehonored and I don't gain the 2 honors 2) I attempt to rehonor him but fail and don't gain the 2 honors 3) He's not rehonored and I gain the 2 honors 4) Obi-Wan Kenobi
I think 2) but I'm not sure. (Could you explain the reasons, please)
Matsu Ushio Battle: Destroy Ushio: Destroy a target enemy card with equal or lower Gold Cost. Gain 2 Honor.
A: You are correct.
Before a player gains Honor from an action or trait that targeted, came from, or was performed by one or more of his or her dishonorable Personalities, the Personality is rehonored and the player does not gain the Honor.
Because Matsu Ushio is out of play, and the above sentence does not explicitly rehonour Personalities out of play, the rehonouring effect does not affect him. Thus, Matsu Ushio remains dishonourable, and you do not gain the Honour. Alex Jones, "Matsu Ushio and rehonoring", 17 Sep 2009
