Rules Q&A
- Q: Minor Illusions Reaction: Bow this Shugenja after a holding is bowed to negate all effects of the Holding other than Gold production.
If my opponent has a Shrine to Daikoku in play that has targeted a Jade Works, and bows the Shrine to pay a gold cost, can I react with Minor Illusions to negate the effects of the +1 gold production on the Jade Works until the end of the turn?
A: Yes. Anything other than a creation, destruction, or change of control effect would be considered something that could be negated by using Minor Illusions. Vaughn Derderian, "Post for June 19, 2003", 19 Jun 2003 - Q: Third, a few quick questions on Minor Illusions. Does it have any effect on a holding which produces an effect without bowing?
A: It can't be cast then. There is no trigger. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 October 2001", 8 Oct 2001 - Q: Can you sacrifice a creature to the Sacrificial Alter, then use Minor Illusions to regain the creature, but keep the gold?
A: No. The sacrifice is a cost, not an effect. Jeff Alexander, "post for 8 October 2001", 8 Oct 2001 - Q: Extention of question, since bringing a corrupt holding into play, the honor loss is created by the holding, can you negate that honor loss with Minor Illusions?
No, by the text of Minor Illusions. The Holding isn't bowing to produce an effect.
Well, the reason I asked was because 'holding's come into played bowed.' Since is specifically mentions that they bow while coming into play (as all other cards come into play unbowed), and cause an honor loss while coming into play...see where the question came from?
A: I see exactly why the question was asked. The Holding never goes from being straight to being bowed, so there's nothing for Minor Illusions to trigger off. It enters play already bowed. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 24 September 2001", 25 Sep 2001 - Q: Extention of question, since bringing a corrupt holding into play, the honor loss is created by the holding, can you negate that honor loss with Minor Illusions?
A: No, by the text of Minor Illusions. The Holding isn't bowing to produce an effect. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 21 September 2001", 24 Sep 2001 - Q: Hello all, as some of you may know who have read my drivel you will notice that I think I am in love with the card Minor Illusions. Minor Illusion reads.
Reaction: Bow this Shugenja after a Holding is bowed to negate all effects of the Holding other than Gold Production.
Here is the question. If I bow a corrupt holding to produce gold, can I bow the shugenja with Minor Illusions attached to negate the honor loss?
A: Yes. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 20 September 2001", 21 Sep 2001 - Q: Does it give the shadowlands the power to crush most or all of deck archetypes in the gold edition ? YES
A: I think you're blowing things a little out of proportion. "Crush most or all deck archetypes in Gold Edition"? They get to discard ONE Fate card from your hand per game. (They've always been able to look at your entire Fate hand, turn after turn, with the Ninja Spy, who is even one gold cheaper.) Jeff Alexander, "replies to 15-16 September 2001", 17 Sep 2001 - Q: How many times do I have say "because that would be banning a card"?
I don't see it as a banning. How is it a banning?
A: The card has been legal in a heavily-played tournament format. It would no longer be legal if the bug were removed. Jeff Alexander, "replies to 15-16 September 2001", 17 Sep 2001
