Rules Q&A
- Q: I looked in the search but it doesn't seem to have been answered...
A: Ah, but it has.
I will grant you, it's not that easy to find. You want the third answer down in this thread, because Fortified Camp and Assigning Blame both trigger at the same time (after your Personality is destroyed). Brook Cunningham, "Mirumoto Kei (Experienced) and Assigning Blame", 24 Aug 2008 - Q: Regarding this post:
Considering that the ruling regarding Determination vs Misdirection followup was done to stop misdirection from tampering with a "Determination" -ed action, how is the same not being applied to Mirumoto Kei's action?
I'd even say that her phrase would explicitly stop Misdirection since she says while the action is "being targeted" since it is explicitly referring to the active tense. If you're picking an apple, that would include looking at the apple, reaching for the apple, plucking the apple, and bringing it to whatever container you intend to place it in. Not just the moment you pluck it. Otherwise such a phrasing has no meaning in this game since all reactions (or at least any that I can think of) happen either before or after an event.
A: The wording and timing of Mirumoto Kei (Experienced) and Determination are different. Determination is played in advance of an action; Kei's effect is "while," and so cannot touch anything "before." Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Kei XP and Misdirection", 8 May 2008 - Q: Mirumoto Kei (Experienced): If my opponent uses Kei's ability to issue a duel, prior to choosing his target for the duel, can I use misdirection for its reaction and choose whom Kei will challenge?
A: Yes, because of Misdirection's "before" timing. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Kei XP and Misdirection", 29 Apr 2008 - Q: I am attacking a province with Mirumoto Kei experienced, my opponent defends with a unique personality. I play Sneak Attack, and use Kei's battle action. May the opposing player use Reinforce the Gate to negate the effects of the action? My opponent says that Reinforce reacts to the announce of the action, and not to the targetting and effects. Is he correct?
A: "Reaction: After a player announces a Battle action..." (emphasis added).
Yes, your opponent can do that. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Kei experienced + Reinforce the Gates + Sneak Attac", 20 Aug 2007 - Q: Mirumoto Kei (Experienced) uses her ability and challenges Hida Daizu (Experienced). Daizu loses. Can Daizu use his reaction to prevent his death?
A: No. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Kei (Experienced) and Hida Daizu (Experienced)", 11 Aug 2007
