Rules Q&A
- Q: If Mareshi is home, he can move to a province where there is an opposing army, correct?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Mareshi Movement Clarification", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: If Mareshi is in an opposed army, he can move any of his players units to the battlefield, correct?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Mareshi Movement Clarification", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: If Mareshi is home, he can NOT move another of his players units to an opposed army, because he is not present at the battlefield to take the action (and by moving another personality, he would not be present by the actions effects), correct?
A: Yes. Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Mareshi Movement Clarification", 28 Feb 2008 - Q: RE: This.
Pardon me, but I believe the above answer is incorrect.
Let me preface this by saying I am hopful I can adequately and correctly assert the validity of my statement despite how frustratingly vague that answer is:
In the link, the asker asks if he may use Mareshi's ability to straighten a unit (it's first effect), then choose to have the second effect fail by attempting to move the unit to a location it is already at.
The answerer directs the asker to the FAQ, leaving the asker (and anyone else reading along) to his own devices from there on. Within the FAQ, the only apparently relevent information I can find is "Do effects have to happen for an action to be legal? No, they don't." This, I feel, leads one to believe that the answerer is saying that the asker's play was legal.
But Mareshi's effect does not say "you may" move the target. It mandates a move. Movement is defined in the CR as changing location. "Trying to move something to somewhere it's already at" is, by definition, not "moving" it at all. Therefore, I believe, the asker's play is not legal, as it is tantamount to choosing to not resolve part of the effect.
A: You must have missed:
Q: Can I use an action that moves a card if it's already in the location it would move to or if it can't move?
to which the A is yes. Note that the phrase is "that moves a card," not "that may move a card."
I'm editing the entry and CR a little, as Blind Cards is not relevant (Blind Cards apply to the specific case of things that refer to another action's anticipated effects) and the CR need to cover failure as well as negation of independent effects. Roger Giner-Sorolla, "RE: Mirumoto Mareshi Exp and straightening", 17 Oct 2007 - Q: If during a battle I control Mirumoto Mareshi Exp and Mirumoto Random. My oponent bows my Mirumoto Random. Can I use Mareshi's battle on my bowed personality at the current battlefield only to straighten him since he can't move to a place where he already is?
Mirumoto Mareshi
Dragon Clan • Samurai • Naga • Hero • Cavalry • Unique • Experienced Mareshi is Human. Battle: Bow one of your Rings or discard a Ring from your hand: Straighten one of your target units. Move it home or to a battlefield with one or more enemy units.

http://rules.l5r.com/FAQ#Is_an_action_l ... _happen.3F Zen Faulkes, "Mirumoto Mareshi Exp and straightening", 16 Oct 2007 - Q: References to the card’s title, or to a shortened form of the title in the case of Personalities, (such as, “Mareshi” as short for “Mirumoto Mareshi”), refer to the card itself. These references change in a copied ability; see Copy.
Such references by title refer only to that copy of the card, not to any other copy that might exist, unless they use wording such as “a Mirumoto Mareshi” or “a copy of Mirumoto Mareshi.”
A: Each Pekkle can trigger once per turn. No Pekkle can trigger more than once. So no matter how many times you bring the same copy of Pekkle into play in a turn, the most the one Pekkle can give you is 3 Honor. 3 Pekkles = 9 Honor.
This might seem kind of silly, but there are older L5R cards that might remove Pekkle from the game and then return it to play in the same turn. This could potentially lead to a single Pekkle entering play 3 or 4 times in a turn - and that's not something the Designers wanted to see happen - hence the "Once per turn," clause on the entering play trait.
