Rules Q&A
- Q: Simple question: Are you obliged to find a ring to put into play at the start of a game (while having a non-Void ring in there)? I ask because of Walking with the Earth and wanting to force a specific opponent to attack.
Thank you!
A: You may choose to fail to find a Ring when you search. Alex Jones, "Fortified Monastery of the Dragon and finding a Ring", 15 May 2015 - Q: Yodo Sensei says,
"Your Stronghold has no abilities." "After your action dishonors another player's Personality, gain 1 Honor."
The going-second side of Fortified Monastery of the Dragon says,
"After all players reveal Strongholds, search your Fate deck for a non-Void Ring, and put it into play; Sensei effects that remove abilities also remove this trait." "You start with 1 additional card in hand and have +1 maximum hand size."
Does Yodo Sensei's 'Your stronghold has no abilities' trait apply to the 'You start with 1 additional card in hand and have +1 maximum hand size' trait on the going-second side of the stronghold?
A: Yodo Sensei's removal of abilities will only remove the trait that lets you start with a Ring (per the wording on the trait), it will not remove the extra card and hand size for going second. Jon Palmer, "Yodo Sensei & Removing "Going Second" Trait", 2 May 2015 - Q: do i have to reveal my Sensei before my Dragon player opponent searches for this ring? The stronghold only says after you both reveal your stronghold... there might be times where it's more strategic to not let my opponent know if i'm using my sensei until after he chooses his ring...
A: Cards with which players start the game in play are all revealed simultaneously, so the Dragon player would not be fetching his Ring until after all Strongholds and Sensei (if any, in the latter case) are revealed. Brook Cunningham, "Remote Monastery of the Dragon and Sensei reveal", 22 Mar 2014
