Rulings
- Q: I'm confused by the Monk Advisors. Who is the "current controller"? And does the phrase about one player having units on both sides in a battle let me attack myself if I give the Advisors to someone else? A: If you play this card on another player's Personality, she is their controller and is the one in charge of their "self-destruct" ability. And since you assign the Monks' unit as though you controlled it, you can't attack yourself with it. That clause only lets you attack the unit's controller with their own unit. Legend of the Five Rings FAQ, Version 3.6.2, May 1998, p. 13
- Scorpion Clan Coup: Q: I'm confused by the Monk Advisors. Who is the "current controller"? Can the player I give them to really destroy them immediately? And does the phrase about one player having units on both sides in a battle let me attack myself if I give the Advisors to someone else? A: If you play this card on another player's Personality, she is their controller and, yes, can immediately dispose of your "gift". And since you assign the Monks' unit as though you controlled it, you can't attack yourself with it. That clause just clarifies that you can attack a player with her own unit. Rules Q&A
- Q: I need to know what the Monk Advisor Follower from Scc edition is cable of doing.
A: If you put it on someone else's Personality, typically nothing. He'll just destroy them with their first Open action, which he can use freely since he's the card's controller.
If you somehow get to use their Reaction, "Once per game, the player who put this card into play may assign this unit as if he controlled the unit, if the player who controls the unit does not assign the unit or tries to assign it to the opposing army. This may result in a player with units on both sides of a battle."
You would take the Reaction as soon as one of those conditions occurs, even if it means assigning the Advisors' unit out of order from the rest of your units. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 March 2003", 28 Mar 2003 - Q: Next One, Monk Advisor's give some bad advice and tell one of my peeps to attack me, his own commander, I have it under contorl i know i can defend against my own attacking personality and i know he is under my control giving me a unit on both sides of a battle but my opponet uses a duel and starts a duel between my to personalities, In the Rule book page 61 under duels and challlenges it Says" Two of your own Personlities can never challenge or become involved in a duel with each other" This one got to conflict with rule book. maybe it is not a legal target? that seems to make sense in this case.
A: The duel would simply not happen in this instance. Jeff Alexander, "post for 19 August 2002", 20 Aug 2002
