Rules Q&A
- Q: If I target a Personality with Monkey Magistrates attached with Honor's Cost can Monkey Magistrates bow to cancel?
A: No. It would make Honor's Cost more expensive, however. Zen Faulkes, "Rules for 28 November 2003", 28 Nov 2003 - Q: Shosuro Higatsuku with Monkey Magistrates attached. If he forces another personality to challenge him, do the MM give him the +2chi bonus?
A: No. Higatsuku is not being targeted by another player's action. He's being challenged by another player's Personality, but it's still *your* action. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for August 13th, 2003", 13 Aug 2003 - Q: OK, here's the situation. My opponent has Shosuro Aroru (5 chi) and I have a 3 chi peep with Monkey Magistrates. Aroru issues an Iaijutsu Challenge to my peep with the Monkey. Can I use the Monkey's reaction?
A: Iaijutsu Challenge is another player's action, and it targets your Personality. Yes, you can use the Magistrates. Jeff Alexander, "post for 17 March 2003", 18 Mar 2003 - Q: Card reads: "Battle: Target one of your Personalities and an opposing Personality with more Chi and less printed Personal Honor. Switch the Force of these two Personalities."
Where is says "less printed Personal Honor", is it referring to both Personalities, or only the other Personality. For example, if my Personalities Personal Honor were raised in some way (Monkey Magistrates, Dragon's Claw Katana, Yoshi's Fan, Wolf's Proposal, etc.) would I compare my raised Personal Honor to the opponent's printed Personal Honor, or would I compare only the printed Personal Honor of both Personalities.
A: The opposing Personality must have a higher current Chi and a lower printed Personal Honor than your Personality. Jeff Alexander, "post for 26 February 2003", 27 Feb 2003 - Q: I'm going to add another part to the question.. I was playing today and this situation arose.
The personality with 3C and the Monkey Magistrates exist. Personality is bowed, Magistrates aren't.
c) Can the Magistrates add the +2 Chi in the event of Kolat master?
A: No. Jeff Alexander, "post for 29 January 2003", 30 Jan 2003 - Q: Monkey Magistrates
reaction: bow MM when this Per. is targeted by another player's action to give this personality +2c. ( if the per. is now an illegal target, the action does not affect him or her.)
So my question is: If a per. with MM attached has 3 chi and is targeted with a Kolat Master what happens?
a. KM is canceled, gold is not refunded and the player taking the action does not lose the 4 honor
b. KM is not canceled, gold is not refunded and the player taking the action loses 4 honor.
A: b. In addition, all Followers attached to that Personality with Honor Requirements above 0 would still be destroyed. [GE p. 48] Jeff Alexander, "post for 28 January 2003", 29 Jan 2003 - Q: I've re-read the definition of "Unit" in Glossary as well as "Attachments" in Comp Rules, yet I am still a bit confused about these two:
Hiruma Shigeo Open: Bow a target attachment.
Monkey Magistrates This Personality has +1 PH. Reaction: After another player's action targets this Personality, bow this card: This Personality gains +2C. If he is no longer a legal target for the action, its effects do not happen.
Shigeo targets Monkey Magistrates (who are in a unit) and tries to bow it. Having in mind that "Targeting a unit is the same as targeting its Personality" as well as Monkey Magistrates Reaction trigger, can I bow them (to pay the Reaction's cost) before Shigeo action's effect bows them, and give my Personality +2C?
Thanks a lot.
A: Targeting an attachment and targeting a unit are NOT equivalent.
Targeting a personality and targeting a unit are equivalent.
Targeting the Monkey Magistrates with Hiruma Shigeo's ability will not trigger the Reaction on Monkey Magistrates. Dan Jacobson, "Hiruma Shigeo vs. Monkey Magistrates", 23 Mar 2010
