Rules Q&A
- Q: Hi there!
Just to be sure: Since the rules archive states: Because focuses provide a stat bonus, effects that prevent bonuses will affect focusing (e.g., Monsoon, Naga Guard). [REVERSAL, JA, e-mail, 30 August 2000] In a test of might Domotai cannot get a strength higher than his chi by focusing and all focuses after this limit is reached dont provide any further bonus.
Is this right?
A: It is right. Jeff Alexander, "post for 18 April 2002", 18 Apr 2002 - Q: Question- What is the ruling on events that "Stay in play"? Do they stay in the province, or are they just sort of floating, but "in play". For example, if Monsoon comes up, and someone is playing Yokuni Sensei...
A: As far as I know, there are only three Events that somehow refer to entering play or staying in play. Those Events are Duty to the Empire, Monsoon, and Sacrifices for Our Future. Those Events will trump Yokuni Sensei, but unless an Event says something specifically about entering/staying in play or reshuffles itself as part of its effect, Yokuni Sensei will stick it in the province. Vaughn Derderian, "Rules for December 21st", 21 Dec 2000 - Q: [Imperial]
Is the Gohei trait affected by Monsoon? We are a bit confused about the first few lines. Monsoon says any action that gives a bonus is negated. In the 2nd it says 'All temporary bonuses', so does that include traits?
@Brook Cunningham I personally think just for actions, but my friends want to confirm with you
A: How nice! Yeah, even back then, there was a clear distinction of what an "action" was, and Gohei's trait isn't, so it should be unaffected. The second Monsoon sentence is likely adding to the confusion, but I don't think it should be taken separately and is just adding qualifiers to the effects of the first.
