- Erratum: Reads, "Moto Latomu 4F/4C -HR 9G 1PH Unicorn Clan Samurai. Cavalry. Latomu costs 1 less Gold if you control the Right Hand of the Emperor. Reaction: After an action moves Latomu to a battlefield, you may bow him: Ranged 2 Attack, or Ranged 4 Attack if you bowed him." Rules Q&A
- Q: -What happens if I egg Moto Latomu exp, will my personalities make two rangeds instead of one?
A: You'll have two Reactions available on each card. You can take each one in turn. Martin Lund, "Rules for 23 January 2005", 25 Jan 2005 - Q: I need a ruling concerning Action Card "Taut Bowstrings" and some personalities.
Taut Bowstrings (WoC) "Reaction: Play before one of your target Followers or Items bows to produce a ranged attack or as part of a combined ranged attack. That card need not bow. Reaction: Play after a unit moves into a Province or before a unit leaves a Province to make a ranged attack targeting it from your opposing cards in that Province. Your cards need not bow to produce this attack."
Now, usually RAs are Battle actions, but sometimes they are Reactions. Moto Latomu has such ability, Moto Latomu exp gives it to others, and Shosuro Tsuyoshi has one compared against Chi. My question is, can I use second ability of TB with such RAs? I would say yes, basing on RAs description on page 90 in rulebook, but I'm not sure.
A: The only snag I see in that under page 90 of the Rulebook, it says that for Combined Ranged Attacks: "must all be the same type, and the cards must all be able to make a ranged attack at that time and at the intended target."
Taut bowstrings gets around the "at the same time" part by letting everyone shoot out of turn, but not the "same type" part. You'd need all "Reaction" RAs or all "Battle" RAs, but you could not make a combined RA of "Reaction" ability Ranged Attacks and "Battle" ability Ranged Attacks. Also, keep an eye out on your targets, since many Reaction Ranged Attacks target something that has to do with their Trigger, and their Trigger may not be met when Taut Bowstrings lets them shoot out-of-turn.
Comparing against Chi isn't a problem. The Combined Ranged Attack picks up all such special properties from its individual parts. If you combine a Chi comparison RA with a regular RA, the Combined Ranged Attack is compared against Chi. Martin Lund, "Rules for 4 January 2005", 8 Jan 2005 - Q: Set up: I am playing Khol Wall. I have two Shinjo Loruko's in play. I have 5 or 6 regions in play. I have Moto Latomu exp in play. My opponent has two 3F chump blockers in play.
I attack my opponent's provinces A & B. Neither has a Region attached. He assigns one of his chump blockers to each Province, I assign a Loruko to each province, and keep Latomu exp in my Fief.
I resolve Province A first, and play Sneak Attack. I us e the Khol Wall Action and switch the location of my two Lorukos.
Question 1: Can I place a generic Region at both Provinces (or just the active battle) using Loruko's reaction to movement?
A: You should be able to do it in both Provinces. It does not reference "opposing" or "this battle" or "the current battle," to run afoul of the infamous page 81 of the Diamond Edition Rulebook. Martin Lund, "Rules for 1 January 2004", 6 Jan 2005 - Q: The other question involves Moto Latomu exp and his Reaction. If I have say 6 regions total in play, my opponent has none for the sake of this question, and they have attacked me at two different provinces, using the ability off the Khol wall can I produce a ranged attacked at any province I move into. Say they are attacking two of my provinces (left and right most), I switch around people from my leftmost and right most, do both get to do a ranged attack at each province or only the battle that's currently under way?
A: You can only shoot in the current battle. Ranged Attacks still must target "opposing" Personalities and anything that mentions "opposing" that can be played when there is a current battle MUST be played only at the current battle. (Diamond Edition Rulebook, page 81) Martin Lund, "Rules for 3 December 2004", 8 Dec 2004 - Q: Question, If the opponent is playing unicorn, and he has a Moto Latomu (Experienced) out, and moves one of his guys into battle and attempts to range my guy, can I use fall on your knees to cancel the range attack, or does he just get to react-range again?
A: Both. You can cancel the action, but your opponent can use it again (Diamond rules, pg. 72). Zen Faulkes, "Moto Latomu (Experienced) + Fall on your knees", 28 Mar 2005 - Q: Can this apply to Moto Latomu's shared ranged attack actions since the rulebook looks for the printed action to be in the current battle if I move another unicorn personality to another province where in he will be opposed?
A: No, no, and again, no. See Archive, Effects. People should stop trying to apply Rain of Death rulings to anything besides Rain of Death. They are often very particular to that card and how it is worded. Zen Faulkes, "Moto Latomu Exp versus Rain of Death", 23 Mar 2005 - Q: [OBH] Iplay Samurai's Fury and Broad Front Combo. I have Moto Latomu XP in the Army, Can I still perform my Range attacks from my other personalities moving in?
A: Yes. No reason that you couldn't. Brook Cunningham, "Sun and Moon #rules-questions", 17 Jun 2026
