Rules Q&A
- Q: Following viewtopic.php?f=59&t=108055 Reapplied force bonus or penalty do not remember being negated by Breaking the Rhythm and similar abilities. I wonder what change in bonus/penalty is counted as reapplying?
Bonus/penalty from Contentious Terrain and Moto Naleesh was reapplied again after going home and back to army, but what if force modification is more complicated than binary "there is one", "there isn't".
If I have e.g. Daidoji Hiroteu in battle and my opponent has a personality with bowed attachment Hiroteru has +1F. Opponent plays BtR, bonus disappears and I bow his Personality. Do I have +0F, +1F or +2F?
Each is, in my eyes, possible ^^ 1)+0F if changing value of bonus is not considered reapplying, but what if his attachment straighten and my bonus (technically still negated) value drops to +0F and bows again? Is that reapplying then?
2) +1F if ongoing bonus was negated, but it's new "part" is counted separately, but here again appears problem of unbowing and bowing my opponents cards,
and
3) +2F if bowing another card in enemy unit counts as full reapplying of whole trait,
A: The effect granting Daidoji Hiroteru's bonus lasts as long as there is an enemy army. Breaking the Rhythm will negate the bonus until the effect ends, ie until there's no longer an enemy army - that is, until the battle ends or there are no enemy units at the current battlefield. A change in the number of bowed cards in the enemy army will not reinstate the effect - you'll have to wait until there is a new enemy army after there having been no enemy army. Alex Jones, "More Breaking the Rhythm vs Traits", 15 May 2015 - Q: Hi there!
I have a Moto Naleesh (or other Commander) that has been targetted by a Spirit of the Warrior, granting her an extra ability. My opponent uses Yoritomo Naoto on her during battle. I figure Spirit of the Warrior is not a card 'now in the unit' and so that ability may still be used. My opponent figures the ability is granted to the personality and is now considered to be on that card. Who is correct? (The same question goes for abilities gained by events such as the Turkoise Championship).
Thank you!
A: The ability granted by an action such as Spirit of the Warrior is "on" the card it is granted to, so if that card is in a unit targeted by Yoritomo Naoto, the ability may not be used.
See Glossary, On: An ability, a trait or a keyword on a card is one either printed on the card, or granted to it by some effect. Alex Jones, "Yoritomo Naoto vs gained abilities", 29 May 2012 - Q: Personality Bob is unique. Bob is dishonorably dead. Bob gets put back into the province. Will Bob enter the province dishonored? What if Bob was put onto the top of the deck, then later showed up in a province? How do tokens work with this?
I can imagine this happening with Moto Naleesh. Although I believe I understand the ruling, I would like to make sure.
Relevant ruling. (Not sure how relevant, but the closest rule I can find.)
"Tracking rule
“Memory” of the status of individual non-Unique cards ends when the card enters a deck or a hand, or otherwise becomes both face-down and out of play (such as after a card in the deck or hand is shown). This includes dishonorable status, ongoing effects, and whether or not an ability has been used."
Thanks in advance. I'm sure I've overlooked something very simple.
A: You looked at the right rule, but I believe you may have an incorrect version of it. Per the Tracking Rule which affects both Unique and non-Unique cards, unless Bob went face-down and out of play, dishonored status will come with him. If he instead went on top of the deck, he would forget his dishonored status.
Tokens are removed from the game if they leave play. Jon Palmer, "Unique card memory.", 5 Feb 2012
