Rules Q&A
- Q: "After Mujina Gang attaches to a Personality, you must discard one card attached to the Personality." and this is trait. So please tell me, can I attach them to some Personality, who has no other cards attached? This discarding is a cost or effect?
A: It is an effect. Notice that you discard the card AFTER you play the Gang, though. If you play the Gang on a Personality who has no cards at all attached yes, you are forced to discard the Gang. Jeff Alexander, "post for 30 May 2003", 3 Jun 2003 - Q: 2. Can Mujina Gang, when being played, discard the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng?
A: Yes. And since the Mask isn't being destroyed, the Personality does not die. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 March 2003", 1 Apr 2003 - Q: "Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng" Unique Shadowlands Lose 4 Honor. Place a number of +1/+1 Porcelain tokens on the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng equal to this Personality's Chi. This Personality gains the Shadowlands trait and the ability "Battle: Fear 3" while the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng is attached. The Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng cannot be moved among Personalities. When the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng is destroyed, destroy this Personality. During each of your Events Phases, remove a Porcelain token. When you remove the last Porcelain token, destroy the Porcelain Mask of Fu Leng.
"Mujina Gang" Creature * Cavalry * Lose 3 Honor. After Mujina Gang attaches to a Personality, you must discard one card attached to the Personality.
Now by reading the text of these two cards and the ruling that if a card is discarded not destroyed, I could wait until I had one token left on the Mask, then attach the Mujina Gang, target the Mask as the card to be discarded, and my Personality would not be destroyed.
A: That is correct. Jeff Alexander, "post for 7 June 2002", 8 Jun 2002 - Q: Mujina Gang: Creature * Cavalry * Lose 3 Honor. After Mujina Gang attaches to a Personality, you must discard one card attached to the Personality.
Is the card you discard destroyed or discarded?
A: The card says "discard", so it is only discarded, not destroyed. Jeff Alexander, "post for 31 May 2002", 1 Jun 2002 - Q: a) When the Mujina Gang attaches, is its trait (discard a card in the unit) a cost or an effect? It does not _appear_ to be a cost;
A: It is an effect. It will, however, cause you to discard the Gang itself should you attach it to a Personality who has no other cards. Jeff Alexander, "post for 27 March 2002", 28 Mar 2002 - Q: If a personality has not attached cards, can Mujina Gang be attached? Or does the player have to discard the Mujina Gang?
A: He'd have to discard the Gang, as the discard happens after they enter play. Jeff Alexander, "post for 15 October 2001", 16 Oct 2001 - Q: Hey,
I play Mujina Gang
After this card enters play: Lose 3 Honor and discard a card in this unit.
Can I discard the Personality, as he is a card in the unit? Does this count as destruction?

A: Still only obligated to answer one of these questions! Yay, "Merge Topic" moderator function! Brook Cunningham, "Rules question", 1 Apr 2010 - Q: Mujina Gang After this card enters play: Lose 3 Honor and discard a card in this unit.
Before the change to Central Castle goes through, if I obfuscate a Mujina gang into battle (or attach it in battle some other way) does this count as discarding a card for the purposes of that stronghold?
A: No. This discarding is an effect of Mujina Gang's trait, not an action (the trigger for Central Castle). Brook Cunningham, "Mujina Gang vs", 1 Apr 2010 - Q: I want to make sure my jank works, so here goes:
Let's say I have a personality in play and I want him in the discard pile, but not dead. Can I attach Mujina Gang and choose to discard the personality. I am assuming yes but, you know what assuming does.
Thanks.
A: Nothing in the rules prevents you discarding the Personality when instructed to "discard a card in [a] unit". Alex Jones, "Mujina Gang", 8 Feb 2010
